The Godfather of Gomora is Rising

Don’s reign of terror is here.

Israel Matseke-Zulu’s portrayal of Don Buthelezi on Gomora has shaken up the dynamic on the show. The actor, who has played several gangster characters on local television shows throughout the years, showcases his acting chops on yet another role that is able to terrorise an entire community.

Having arrived on the show as Teddy’s long lost deadbeat father, Don has transitioned from a man seeking forgiveness for his past sins to Gomora‘s most feared crime lord. It didn’t take long for him to transition from a humanised man grieving the loss of his late wife, to a ruthless thug working his way through the ranks to lead Alexandra’s hijacking mob.

We worried a little that his sudden rise to the throne was a little unjustified, bearing in mind he’d come in as one looking for redemption. How does he suddenly become a criminal boss overnight?

But this is addressed on Friday’s episode of the Mzansi Magic daily drama. Teddy, confronting his father one more time to understand how the hell he switched up so fast, recalls how the man he met seemed nice. It’s then Don reveals that the man we all met was always a front. We’ve been punked.

While Sonto, who ran the streets for years during the peak of her double life as the township’s Mother Teresa who only took off her mask at night to manage her secret life as an OG, fights for her life in hospital, Don is taking over. Not only is he hellbent on forming the most powerful network of criminals in the northern township, he also seemed adamant on taking every last thing Nomasonto owns.

Last week after being kicked out by Zodwa, Don moved in with the Molefe’s. He is using the same fraudulent lease contracts he used to fake legal access to Sonto’s car workshop. The same forged signature is now being used by Don to gain free accommodation at Sonto’s house, where the enemies that want him dead are on his tight leash.

He’s also out to get Bongani Shisanyama, the only man standing between him and Zodwa. It’s absolutely wild because for 19 years, he left Zodwa to raise their son while he started another family. He’s back now though, and everyone must suffer through his display of psychopathic narcissism.

Oh, he absolutely adores Zodwa. My foot! So far, Don’s pursuit of the relationship has so far seemed to be an ego-fuelled farce meant to cover up his real agenda; to take over everything.

Enemies are zeroing in on him like sharks, however. Will Don continue to reign over Gomora, or will the enemies finally catch him right when his guard is down?
