Everything you Need to Know about the James Bond Pop Up Channel
Dapper tuxedos, fast cars and deadly villains.
Published
1 month agoon

I’m hunting down some good fat bomb recipes for a yummy treat while bingeing on all the James Bond movies through the decades. While fans of the iconic action thriller franchise wait for the looming 007 No Time To Die movie with Daniel Craig, M-Net Movies is bringing back the 007 James Bond pop-up channel.
Following the success of this pop up in early 2020, the channel is once more casting its spotlight on the suave, debonair, and dapper dressed secret service agent James Bond.
This time, however, the thrilling pop-up channel on DStv channel 111 will not only be open to DStv Premium subscribers but also DStv Compact Plus and Compact subscribers for the first time, starting from Friday, 22 January 2021, until Sunday, 31 January 2021.
This will allow for a vast number of DStv subscribers, consisting of diehard Bond fans as well as new, young 007 admirers, to indulge themselves, from 10:00 until midnight, in the ultimate James Bond experience. It includes the dapper tuxedos, fast cars, sultry bond girls, exotic locations, mind-blowing gadgets, deadly villains, and martinis, which are served shaken, not stirred, of course.
The ten-days Bond film marathon, featuring the charming actors who have played the iconic 007 role, from Pierce Brosnan to Sean Connery, Roger Moore, and current Bond Daniel Craig, will showcase iconic films from the 007 film franchise.
The movies will be screened chronologically, starting with the first film in the series released 59 years ago, Dr. No (1962), to the latest Bond film and box office hit, Spectre (2015).
Viewers can watch this pop-up channel from any device at any time. All the films that will be screened as part of the pop-up channel will also be available on DStv Catch Up until Sunday, 28 February 2021.
In addition, DStv Family and Access subscribers can also access the pop-up channel through the DStv Add Movies offering, which is an add-on service that will also give viewers access to blockbuster movie channels M-Net Movies 1 (DStv channel 104), M-Net Movies 2 (DStv channel 106), and fliekNet (DStv channel 149).

Tom and Jerry’s new big-screen adventure.

One of the most beloved rivalries in history is reignited when Jerry moves into New York City’s finest hotel on the eve of “the wedding of the century,” forcing the event’s desperate planner to hire Tom to get rid of him, in director Tim Story’s “Tom & Jerry.”
The ensuing cat and mouse battle threatens to destroy her career, the wedding and possibly the hotel itself. But soon, an even bigger problem arises: a diabolically ambitious staffer conspiring against all three of them.
An eye-popping blend of classic animation and live-action, Tom and Jerry’s new big-screen adventure stakes new ground for the iconic characters and forces them to do the unthinkable… work together to save the day.
FUN FACTS:
- From stars Tom and Jerry to a host of extras including fish, butterflies and elephants, all the animals in the new film Tom and Jerry are animated and living in a live-action world.
- To help the human stars of Tom and Jerry interact with their still-to-be-animated co-stars, puppeteers were hired to act out their performances – a very useful strategy, except it turned out that Jerry’s puppeteer was named Tom! In the thick of the action it was quite confusing. The filmmakers searched far and wide for a puppeteer named Jerry but had no luck.
- Tom and Jerry is the first feature-length film featuring the famous cat and mouse duo to combine animation with live-action.
- In Tom and Jerry, Tom’s trademark scream was sourced from the original animated series, performed by co-creator William Hanna.
- Principal photography wrapped in September of 2019, just a few months before the pandemic. After proactively closing our post-production facility in London, the crew was up and running with a virtual workflow in less than three days.

‘One Night Kwa Mxolisi’ – 10 Interesting Facts
Hot trivia about the making of the movie.

Following its parallel premiere on Mzansi Magic and Showmax, One Night Kwa Mxolisi has garnered its fair share of interest. And the South African film, which is part of four original local movies dropping on DStv through 2021, has unveiled some secrets about the project, its cast and producers.
Starring Sisanda Henna (who also directs the film), Donovan Goliath, Linda Mtoba and SAFTA award-winning actor Motlatsi Mofatsi amongst others, the plot follows a once semi-successful rugby player who invites his friends to the opening of his new restaurant. But after one too many drinks, truth-bombs are thrown and friendships get tested.

From the film being initially named something else, to the time it took to make, here are some unknown gems about the making of One Night Kwa Mxolisi that you should know:
- The movie was initially titled Good Boys and was commissioned as a KykNET movie.
- Written by Marvin Lee Beaukers and Johan Cronje, the film took a year to write, while filming took only two weeks as the film was shot in one location.
- Sisanda’s first-born son Micaiah Henna is in the film and plays the role of son Olwethu aka Olly. He does have some scenes he shares with Sisanda.
- Post-production editor for the film Kagiso Latane acted as a stand-in while Sisanda filmed his acting scenes, and to avoid confusion, he would wear a shirt similar to Sisanda’s for continuity.
- For talent casting, Sisanda Henna and casting director Ayanda Makayi held screen and chemistry tests to secure the stellar cast featured in the movie. Sisanda had the vision in terms of the type of characters, and Ayanda brought the vision to life.
- The film was shot in 27 Boxes in Melville, which was closed due to Covid-19. The concept of the restaurant, M.X.O’s on 4th is based on Henna’s brother’s bistro, Blaque in Bryanston. The original restaurant in the movie is set in Parkhurst on 4th but the script was adjusted to also reflect it as being in Melville.
- Ant’s (Donovan Goliath) rap went off script and was kept in the movie. Donovan wrote the lyrics himself.
- The leading character’s name was meant to be Siya…yes, inspired by Siya Kolisi.
- This is Donovan Goliath’s debut as an actor in a film.
- The couple Funi (Fulu Mugovhani) and Brian’s (Nyaniso Dzedze) are inspired by SA’s power couple, Zam and Khensani Nkosi.

One Night Kwa Mxolisi features the likes of Linda Mtoba, Fulu Mgovhani and Buhle Samuels

Chairman Fred Hampton was 21 years old when he was assassinated by the FBI, who coerced a petty criminal named William O’Neal to help them silence him and the Black Panther Party. But they could not kill Fred Hampton’s legacy and, 50 years later, his words still echo…louder than ever.
