Celebrity Game Night Back with Season 2 on E!

Let the games begin!

Published

on

These days we don’t mind some good ol’ playful fun to balance out all the blues. And overflowing with fun and laughter, ‘Celebrity Game Night’ is back for more side-splitting antics as favourite local stars battle it out to reign victorious.

Celebrity Game Night SA season 2

Anele Mdoda is back as co-host on Celebrity Game Night season 2

Returning to lead their celebrity squads to victory are original team captains, Jason Goliath and Ayanda Thabethe, while the razor-sharp Anele Mdoda reprises her role as host.

Ayanda Thebethe will be doing her thing again

Based on the Primetime Emmy Award-winning series Hollywood Game Night, the first season included some of the biggest names in local entertainment, such as Minnie Dlamini-Jones; Alex Caige; Dineo Langa; Ice Prince; Boity; Maps Maponyane; Roxy Burger and Lerato Kganyago. And, this season, Celebrity Game Night welcomes new celebrity guests, along with some returning faces, who take each other on in hysterical games such as “Where Are You Going?”, “Popped Quiz” and “Clue Boom.”

Catch the season 2 premiere on Sunday, February 7th at 20:00 on E! (DStv channel 124)

Qiniso Turns Up the Heat! – The Bachelorette SA Recap

Two had to bite the dust. (SPOILERS)

Published

on

Well, Qiniso and Aviwe really got in touch. Photo Credit: Supplied

Qiniso was able to cultivate deeper connections with more of the guys on last night’s episode of The Bachelorette South Africa, and we love it for her.

Except, we need an explanation on how one can go through so many passionate kisses and not be totally soaked in the feels. Granted, some of the gents are downright corny, but it’s the kind that can end a cuffing season.

RELATED: MEET THE BACHELORETTE SA MEN

She’s having fun while looking for her Mr. Charming, so Qiniso had ample opportunity to find more areas of chemistry with the eligible bachelors last night. The episode gave us some amazing intimate one-on-one dates, confrontations, and people being called out on their BS.

For some of the guys, however, the challenging atmosphere became an opportunity to display charm with the sis.

BACHELORETTE SOUTH AFRICA MARCH 4th TOP MOMENTS

Peter dominating the Loggers challenge

Lunga, Justin, Kganya, Peter, Cameron, Gregory, Ruan, and Swazi were the lucky men to go on a group date. The date; a logging challenge that was designed to separate the men from the boys. There was axe cutting, wood sawing, flipping logs, and the nail challenge.\

But this challenge brought out the dark horses as the “nerd” Kganya and Peter did really well, with Peter beating Swazi in a nail-biting finale to win the one-on-one date with Qiniso. But it was Swazi that stole a kiss from Qiniso when he managed to find a quiet time to talk to her.

 The one-on-one dates

After winning the logging challenge, Peter and Qiniso had a romantic evening by the fire where she and Peter strengthened their bond. She managed to break through her barrier of only seeing Peter as the young boy she used to know and becoming a man that she could be with.

The next one-on-one was with Gareth, as she knew he was awkward around the other guys. She used this time to get to know him and took him skeet shooting. A skill that Qiniso was far better than him at. This was followed by a romantic picnic where they learned more about each other and found that they had a lot in common. She also spoke about fond memories of her father, something she does not do often.

Both men got a rose that made them safe for the evening.

Cameron giving Franco a helping hand

Cameron surprisingly helped out Franco, who was worried that he did not have any time with Qiniso as he had not been on a group or one-on-one date. They set up a skit, where Cam used his acting skills and pretended to be Jason. He then went on to announce a date with Franco and led Qiniso to him in the other room, where they had a game-filled mini-date.

All the kisses

There were a lot of Lucky men in this episode. Swazi, Peter, Dylan, Aviwe, and Gareth all locked lips with South Africa’s bachelorette. Swazi stole a kiss after the logging challenge, Peter and Gareth after opening up on their dates, Dylan at the cocktail party, and Aviwe after a very sweet moment with Qiniso that stole his heart.

Confronting the predators

In a scene filled with tension, attempted manipulation, and a strong and firm Qiniso, Craig and Vuyani ended up in her cross-hairs.

Craig irked her earlier in the night when he tried to disrupt Franco’s plan, and Qiniso made it clear to him that she doesn’t know which Craig she is getting, the playboy or the sweet man see connected with over his family and culture.

After eavesdropping on their conversation, Vuyani interrupted so he could get time with Qiniso, a move she loathed and took as Vuyani taking his revenge on Craig. This did not sit well with her, “I’m a springbok, and I’ve got a predator and another predator,” she said. This left both men on high-alert for the rose ceremony to follow.

Craig and Greg leaving the Mansion

Gregory, the shy barman and part-time hardcore guitarist, did not do enough to catch the eye of Qiniso and failed to make a connection, resulting in him leaving the mansion.

The highly controversial Craig was too much for Qiniso in the end. She didn’t know which Craig she was going to get – the one that connected with her by talking about his family and culture or the smooth-talking playboy. The man who studied Child and Youth Development fell short on the night and was too sent home.

Real Housewives of Durban – The Shocking Plot Twist

I wasn’t planning to cry.

Published

on

We’d been thinking the producers of the Real Housewives of Durban had settled on the narrative of an explosive rivalry between Nonku Williams and Ayanda Ncwane.

And while the girls still aren’t filming together in group settings, almost as if there’s an agreement to keep some distance-nyana, recent scenes have made their complicated dynamic that much more interesting.

Unlike other frenemies across the franchise, this feud wouldn’t be manufactured.

It flows naturally from how their realities collide, giving producers story arcs to be explored. Nonku dropped the bomb on episode one, revealing in the presence of the girls that Ayanda’s late husband, gospel superstar Sfiso Ncwane, fathered her daughter Nothile.

Nonku Williams Real Housewives of Durban

That very moment completely set the tone for the reality show. Clearly, the girls had come to earn their cheques and give us unscripted reality, which we found to be a refreshing departure from some of the local attempts.

In the episodes prior, the tension between the two had been building up. Class acts though they are, because they are basically throwing shade, both subtle and in your face, without ratchet displays. Maybe I’ve been watching way too much Basketball Wives, but sometimes these shows make these do way too much for ratings.

Thanks to how the producers allowed the tension to build up between the two, their heartfelt moment in the new episode caught most completely off guard.

Putting their differences aside, Nonku and Ayanda made the decision to bring Nothile to commemorate her father. It’s an annual event that takes place amongst the Ncwane’s, and she had never gotten the chance.

At the graveyard, Nonku couldn’t hold back the tears. Ayanda gave her a warm hug, empathising with what she must be going through. We love that it didn’t go south. Instead, they gave us a very real and touching moment between women whose paths cross in a deeply meaningful way. When they played Sfiso’s song at the end of that scene, no eye was dry.

We are keeping an eye to see how this pans out. Real Housewives of Durban is streaming premiere episodes every Friday on Showmax.

Love Island SA’s Woes Continue after Disaster Debut

Shocking.

Published

on

Love Island SA premiered with only two black people in its cast. Since its debut on Sunday, the show has suffered massive international blowback over its lack of diversity. They’ve also been in the throes of public backlash over a bunch of technical issues that rendered it a poorly produced, sloppy mess.

By Monday, they had lost one of their sponsors.

The conversation is about how the casting of the show replicates notions of white as right. Statistically, the show came nowhere near reflecting the racial and cultural diversity of the country.

Perhaps as a desperate move to pacify audiences, the channel later teased the coming of new cast members later in the season. The pictures feature arms and tummies and other body-part close-ups of melanated people.

That didn’t work out. Twitter quickly termed these introductions as ’emergency blacks’. It looked like a desperate attempt to fix a problem whose foundations are troubling.

M-Net has since apologised about the show’s appalling lack of diversity and the delivery of a technically catastrophic premiere episode. “We’re sorry – we didn’t meet our standards on both counts.” They are also working tirelessly to fix things, it says here.

This should be a learning moment.
