Netflix’s Fatal Affair Fails to Lift Off – Review

Fatal Affair Now Available on Netflix!

Netflix has been on such a good run of late, dropping amazing content to binge on during these hard times that they can get a pass for the Fatal Affair bomb. The movie failed to lift off despite recreating the formulaic fatal attraction repertoire we’ve seen over the years.

Even the acting from the 90’s golden generation of actors, Nia Long and Omar Epps was uninspired to say the least. Couple that with how predictable the movie was, you could possibly want an hour and a half of your life back after sitting through this suspense thriller.

From the onset, you could’ve felt like you missed the start of the movie after it skipped through the important parts – providing context to the relationships in the movie. Ellie (played by Nia), is a successful lawyer with a seemingly perfect life.

She’s married to Marcus (Stephen Bishop) and has a daughter (Aubrey Cleland) in college. She reconnects with an old friend from college, David (Omar) through work, which sparks deep-seated flames ablaze.

We missed the part of Ellie and David’s relationship before bumping into each other, the cause of David’s mental instability and the turmoil in her marriage that drove her into the arms of another man. It was later revealed that David had been obsessed with Ellie from college, which made sense of his insistence to go out with her in the first place for casual drinks.

Fatal Attraction

Once Ellie gave in, he showered her with the attention and obvious flirtation she had longed for from her husband. Failing to resist his charm, plus with a little liquid courage, she locked lips passionately in the bathroom before she came to her senses.

They both moved away from the encounter with two different perspectives of what happened – Ellie was distraught after giving in to a momentary weakness after a 20-year marriage while David saw a gap to infiltrate.

Unsurprisingly so, as the name of the movie implies, the affair leads to a predictable fatality of the antagonist. A lot could’ve been done to add a twist to storyline that has been retold so many times. From the trailer, there were plain similarities to movies such as The Perfect Guy, The Intruder, When the Bough Breaks, No Good Deed and many others.

The biggest flaw of the movie stems from the fact that director Peter Sullivan has done this formula before in his past works. His movie, Secret Obsession also features a similar storyline, plot and anti-climactic ending.

There was no surprise element to the movie, and appears to be a drawn-out plot where Epps would eventually attempt to get rid of all the people that stood in the way of his relationship with Long.

You can stream the movie on Netflix, currently is the most watched content on the streaming service in South Africa to make your own summation.

The Shocking Fallout of Black Motion

Tensions have reportedly escalated.

They are one of South Africa’s most revered music duos.

Their discography packs both blockbuster club bangers and lush delights for lovers of House with a transcendental African sonic flair. And the explosive fallout of Black Motion, which has been splashed across the internet long before reaching the courts, has shocked many.

Loved for their electrifying live performances and awe-inspiring chemistry, Mörda and Smol have always seemed like musical soulmates. But that relationship seems to have reached a bitter end.

In 2022, rumours of their reported split triggered a frenzy on the internet. Following the uproar, the group’s members Bongani Mohosana, who now goes as Mörda, and Smol (real name Roy Thabo Mabogwane), jointly calmed fears that they had fallen out.

It had been said the break would be temporary, as Mörda moved to focus on the release of his solo studio album.

Far from it, it now seems. The parties have escalated things to court.

According to reports, Black Motions have confirmed that they had pressed charges against Mörda for alleged housebreaking and theft.

A court order by the High Court in Gauteng posted on social media has ordered Morda to “restore possession of a recording studio apparatus” to the group by 13 January, at 5pm.

Black Motion shared snaps of the alleged damage caused by Morda – a broken door and stolen equipment.

It looks like we won’t be getting a new Black Motion album with Mörda anytime soon.
