M-Net To Premiere COVID -19 Doccie – Ripple Effect: First Wave

Published

on

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to send shock waves around the world, disrupting life as we know it and causing massive scale devastation, man, everyone just wants to know more.

What is it, how do we stay safe, how far are the scientists with the cure and what should we know?

Well, M-Net has acquired the rights to screen the engaging and important international COVID-19 documentary: Ripple Effect: First Wave.

This doccie was filmed across fourteen countries on five continents and looks at the costly, unknown threat that brought the world to a standstill.

Making it available to African television audiences as quickly as possible, M-Net 101 viewers can watch Ripple Effect: First Wave tonight (Wednesday, 13 May) at 19:00. It will also be available on DStv Catch Up after the M-Net 101 broadcast.

Produced in under six weeks, while the production teams were under various forms of lockdowns and social distancing rules, Ripple Effect: First Wave is narrated by UK podcaster Hannah Maguire.

As the documentary seeks to address the cause and effect of this unprecedented pandemic, it features the personal stories of COVID-19 victims, survivors, frontline workers, and their families and friends.

It also weaves together the voices of the topmost experts from around the globe in various fields such as infectious diseases, viral pathology, world economics, political science, and more. They explain the cause and effect of this virus in simple terms.

Ripple Effect: First Wave is the handiwork of Kevin Fox, Ellen Douglas, Liz Levenson, and Benn Watson and a co-production between Cactus Tree Entertainment and Toronto-based RMI.  It is dedicated to Levenson’s father, Maury Levenson, who died on April 11 from COVID-19.

While Ripple Effect, First Wave takes up the 19:00 slot tonight, the tenth and final season of the police drama Hawaii Five-O will still commence next week (Wednesday 20 May) at 19:00.

Watch Celebrities Discuss Hair on The Halo Diaries

Breakdown of how your faves care for their hair!

Published

on

Against the backdrop of the Clicks ad fiasco, comes a new series that celebrates black hair in all its glory. The word “Hair” alone evokes emotions for women the world over, and more particularly, black women who have now, more than ever, started embracing their natural hair.

This evolution did not come without a revolution and any black woman will tell you that the shift away from westernised policing of hair has been a long, hard fight. As a young girl grows into a woman, as fashion trends change, as seasons change, one thing remains true throughout – hair is more than aesthetics and more importantly, there are no rules to our hair.

RELATED: 5 BANGERS TO PEEP NOW – NOMCEBO, JAZZDISCIPLES & MORE

Halo Heritage, along with Boity Thulo, put together a panel of African queens to capture  The Halo Diaries, a 3 episode series that tackles the intimate topic of the relationship between a black woman and her hair.

In addition to Boity Thulo, the group, led by Anele Mdoda, included Naledi Radebe (lifestyle content creator), Lerato Seuoe (ex cosmo beauty editor and expert), ThickLeeyonce (content creator), Moozlie (musician) and Adera Kachienga (model & Halo Heritage ambassador). The group discussed their hair (halo) journeys, sharing real, intimate stories about African hair.

These dynamic women opened up about their own natural hair journeys, the impact of the media and the way we feel as women – a conversation that will resonate with all black women, no matter where they are in the world.

Radebe, who has floor-length locks, said that one of her first memories of her hair being politicized was in high school, where teachers told her she couldn’t wear her natural hair because it was too ‘excitable’.

Thickleeyonce disclosed that Rihanna was her first hair inspiration, but because her hair wasn’t growing fast enough, she found pieces of weave and used superglue to stick them to her hair, really highlighting what women had to go through in order to feel accepted by society.

“Your hair is actually a journey and people go through various turns to get to a place where they feel like they can enjoy their hair,” shared Seuoe, while Moozlie shared that after chopping off her hair she had to label herself as ‘your favourite bald chick’ because she was cognisant of the fact that there were thousands of people [in this line of work] and she had to be remembered somehow.

Thulo said that the three words she would use to describe her hair journey would be “royal, enough and beautiful” while Kachienga said her three words are, “diverse, exciting and vivacious” adding, “when you have THAT hairstyle, it gives you the oomph and confidence to take on any environment you’re in”.

As the discussion progressed, it became evident that hair is not one absolute thing for every black woman. Hair is unique, personal, and ever-changing and the women showed this through their honesty and willingness to discuss their intimate hair journeys.

Episode 2 will be live on the Halo Heritage Youtube page on the 1st of October, while Episode 3 will be live on the 8th of October.

Inside Kevin Hart’s ‘Don’t F**k This Up’ Netflix Docu-Series

The man behind the laughs.

Published

on

Kevin Hart Don't Fuck This Up

Fans of Kevin Hart’s comic material will delight in the premiere of his docuseries, Don’t F*** This Up, on Netflix.

While the video streaming platform already boasts a catalogue of several stand up specials with the comedian and actor as the main attraction, the visual document is distinguished by its format and the goal to reveal new layers to the man who’s amassed a fortune of more than $200 million as the most sought up after stand-up comedian in the world.

Kevin Hart Don't Fuck This Up

Don’t F*** This Up has a big mission. On the one hand, it seeks to satiate the taste of fans who’ve clamored to know more intimately the man behind the jokes – the funny ones and the ones that landed him on the throes of cancel culture recently.

He’s a big Hollywood star with a massive career and the highest-paid comedian in the world. A special about the man is hot property.

On the other hand, it must justify itself.

In 2018, Hart had been announced as the host for the 2019 Oscars, but was forced to retreat after a series of older, homophobic tweets resurfaced. At first he refused to apologise, instead challenging cancel culture and its ruthless demand for folk to be punished for views they held in their past lives, views they no longer hold.

But in an interview with Men’s Health earlier this year, Hart acknowledged the hurt that may have been caused by his tweets and jokes, regardless of whether he still holds them. As Don’t F**** offers fans a deeper look into the life, grind and mind of the comedian, such topics are not off-limits.

Neither is his reported marital issues, the car accident that almost took his life, and many other parts of his life that aren’t as easy to talk about.

Don’t F**k This Up is streaming on Netflix now.
