Prior to the release of his highly anticipated album, the frustratingly over-delayed Jesus Is King, Kanye West embarked on a tour to amplify his first gospel album. One of the promotional stops was a sit down with Zane Lowe, which took place on Thursday, October 24th on Apple Music’s Beats 1.

Love him or hate him, there’s no shred of doubt that Kanye West is possibly the most intriguing character in this generation’s Pop culture.

This interview offered an unfettered platform for him to engage Zane on the atelier of his ideas, many which have been as interesting as they have been alienating.

He spoke frankly on a sprawling range of topics, from music to his controversial political aberrations. Here are some of the hottest highlights from the interview

KANYE ON THE LINEAGE OF JAY TO YE TO DRAKE

Kanye: I love all of these people but you gotta know there’s a lineage of Jay to Ye to Drake. This person is your idol, then you get to know em, then you be friends, then you turn to frenemies, then you turn to enemies, and then you gotta bring back the positive energy.

But that’s the lineage of rap kings and inspirers, because Jay was my BIGGEST inspiration.

By the time I got to New York and we had the throwbacks, Big Boi had throwbacks first, but there was a little stand at Lenox and I’d be going down there doing beats with Jermaine Dupri and I’d pull up with my throwback and Jay is be like ‘man that’s nice’ then I pull up the next day with another throwback, and then day four they say, ‘what, you stay in Atlanta?’

ON WEARING THE MAGA HAT

Kanye: Now that I’m in service to Christ my job is to spread the gospel. I’m no longer a slave I’m a son now, a son of God and I’m free, but this shows you that God is hilarious. Liberals love art and now I am unquestionably, undoubtedly the greatest human artist of all time.

It’s just a fact. Right? So to put a red hat on was God’s practical joke on all liberals like nooooo not Kanye! But those liberals never, we are the same human beings, it’s not man vs machine, man IS the machine. We are God’s imperfect creation because we perish.

ON ASKING COLLABORATORS NOT TO HAVE PREMARITAL SEX

Kanye: There was times where I was asking people to fast during the album. This is gonna be radical what I’m about to say we can look at it in the edit. There were times I was asking people to not have premarital sex while they were working on the album.

I know that’s one where the Shade Room will be like ‘what you mean not have premarital sex!?’ but seriously there’s times I went to people that were working on other projects and said could you just work and focus on this? I mean it’s known when people pray together, families that pray together stay together. When people pray together and fast together, the power is increased.
