UPDATE: 22:50 – Mampintsha’s new single, featuring Babes Wodumo and DJ Tira has since shot to the top of iTunes singles chart accross all genres.
Questions are once more swirling around Mampintsha and Babes Wodumo’s highly publicised relationship.
It hasn’t been a mere two months since the public witnessed a live Instagram stream of what appeared to be Mampintsha (Mandla Maphumulo) physically attacking Babes (Bongekile Simelane) after a heated argument.
Fast forward, we’ve got a new song with the off-again on-again pair.
Mind you, a lot happened in the last month that, in another world, would have pretty much ruled out the possibility of instant rekindling. But we are in this world, and details around the nature of their relationship remain the puzzle pieces needed by fans to make sense of this reality.
A case was opened against Mampintsha, who, after being released on bail, slammed Babes Wodumo’s character as being at the centre of his appalling behaviour. She later revealed that he had been using her social media accounts to pose as her, a fact which she intended to use as part of her legal case.
On Friday, all seemed to have vanished.
The new song is called Khona Iyngane Layndlini (there are kids in the house), which fans will remember from the infamous assault video that led to the arrest of Mampintsha.
The troubled pair made headlines earlier this year after a live Instagram video exposed graphic moments of Mampintsha assaulting the Gqom Queen in what appeared to be a bedroom.
The stream caused mass-scale upset as the public, music industry and government expressed shock at the incident.
While some fans have begun questioning the credibility of the clip in light of the song, the singer’s father, Welcome Simelane, revealed earlier this year that Mampintsha had brutally assaulted Babes on several occasions.
Detailing a series of domestic violence cases involving Maphumulo and his daughter, real name Bongekile Simelane, Mr. Simelane recalled a few times Mampintsha hit Babes in front of some family members.
“…He was slapping my daughter in front of the gates”, he told EWN.
The first time Mampintsha was accused of being physically abusive towards the Wololo hitmaker took place at the Metro FM studios in 2018, when Masechaba outed Mampintsha live on air.
A sobbing Babes Wodumo neither confirmed nor denied the allegations at the time.
At the time, DJ Tira shared his own heartbreak through a tweet. He also features in the new gqom track, further sparking debates about where the lines between a carefully orchestrated publicity stunt, and a gutting domestic violence case start and end.
K.O Reveals Third Album Details – Everything We Know
K.O has announced his third solo project.
On Monday, K.O delighted fans when he not only announced his long awaited third solo studio album, but also revealed the album artwork, along with the title.
Slated for release on September 27th, K.O’s third solo project is called PTY UnLTD.
Perfectly synchronised to launch along with the looming summer, the album will premiere during the commercial peak of his latest hit, Say U Will, the simmering collaborative joint that saw him team up with the beautiful Nandi Madida.
The songbird has been celebrating her first ever number one, which also marks KO’s successful revival.
PTY UnLTD will also come just months after the Cashtime catalogue was availed across digital streaming platforms earlier this year. “It’s a piece of history we wanted to preserve”, he told QuenchSA in an exclusive interview, in which he also began laying out the elements which will define his next sonic ecosystem.
The sound will not adhere to the trappings of Skhanda, the Hip Hop and Kwaito fusion he masterfully pioneered and popularised with his previous works. It’s a fresh start for K.O, who sees the successes of his recent releases – which includes Supa Dupa – as keys unlocking his next chapter.
“What I have coming up is gonna be appreciated on a large scale, just based on where I am. I think I found my feet again. I can’t wait for people to hear”, he told QuenchSA.
