Fans Furious As Mampintsha’s New Song Features Babes Wodumo

An orchestrated publicity stunt or a gutting case of alleged brutal domestic violence? Mampintsha and Babes Wodumo leave fans stranded after reuniting on a new song, less than two months after he allegedly battered her on Instagram live.

Published

on

UPDATE: 22:50 – Mampintsha’s new single, featuring Babes Wodumo and DJ Tira has since shot to the top of iTunes singles chart accross all genres.

Questions are once more swirling around Mampintsha and Babes Wodumo’s highly publicised relationship.

It hasn’t been a mere two months since the public witnessed a live Instagram stream of what appeared to be Mampintsha (Mandla Maphumulo) physically attacking Babes (Bongekile Simelane) after a heated argument.

Fast forward, we’ve got a new song with the off-again on-again pair.

Mind you, a lot happened in the last month that, in another world, would have pretty much ruled out the possibility of instant rekindling. But we are in this world, and details around the nature of their relationship remain the puzzle pieces needed by fans to make sense of this reality.

A case was opened against Mampintsha, who, after being released on bail, slammed Babes Wodumo’s character as being at the centre of his appalling behaviour. She later revealed that he had been using her social media accounts to pose as her, a fact which she intended to use as part of her legal case.

On Friday, all seemed to have vanished.

The new song is called Khona Iyngane Layndlini (there are kids in the house), which fans will remember from the infamous assault video that led to the arrest of Mampintsha.

The troubled pair made headlines earlier this year after a live Instagram video exposed graphic moments of Mampintsha assaulting the Gqom Queen in what appeared to be a bedroom.

The stream caused mass-scale upset as the public, music industry and government expressed shock at the incident.

While some fans have begun questioning the credibility of the clip in light of the song, the singer’s father, Welcome Simelane, revealed earlier this year that Mampintsha had brutally assaulted Babes on several occasions.

Detailing a series of domestic violence cases involving Maphumulo and his daughter, real name Bongekile Simelane, Mr. Simelane recalled a few times Mampintsha hit Babes in front of some family members.

“…He was slapping my daughter in front of the gates”, he told EWN.

The first time Mampintsha was accused of being physically abusive towards the Wololo hitmaker took place at the Metro FM studios in 2018, when Masechaba outed Mampintsha live on air.

A sobbing Babes Wodumo  neither confirmed nor denied the allegations at the time.

At the time, DJ Tira shared his own heartbreak through a tweet. He also features in the new gqom track, further sparking debates about where the lines between a carefully orchestrated publicity stunt, and a gutting domestic violence case start and end.

5 South African Songs You Should Be Listening To Right Now

A list of songs to vibe to!

Published

on

As we edge closer to the end of the year towards the blissful festive season, QuenchSA‘s hottest songs list will start reflecting the songs that will likely be carrying us into 2020.

This week, Kwesta thrilled fans with a surprise release featuring American rapper, Rich Homie Quan.

Run It Up premiered on Friday with visuals which found Rich Homie Quan immerse himself with the rich texture of the South African township culture.

MFR Souls unleashed their first full body of work, which has already spawned a song every dance-floor needs for an amplified frenzy.

Cassper Nyovest released a music video with Frank Casino for Who Got The Block, a single from his 2018 album, Short and Sweet.

Here’s the list of 10 South African Songs you should be vibing to!

  • MFR SOULS FEAT. SHA SHA & KABZA DE SMALL – LOVE YOU TONIGHT

There’s no shred of doubt that Amapiano have completely disrupted the South African music landscape! The producers for Amapiano banged out anthems faster than any of the established artists could.

A triumphant successor to the now flatlining Gqom era, which saw our authentic sound and street dance culture make waves internationally, this dance genre and its subculture delivered a slew of new artists, a chunk who have dominated local music charts for the better part of the year.

At the genesis of Amapiano is production duo MFR Souls, who have been engineering amapiano numbers long before the mainstream culture caught on.  That list of originators includes the JazziDisciples and Kabza De Small, to name but a few. This year, these names got their turn in the zeitgeist.

Love You Tonight, the first single from Mfr Souls’new released nine-track EP, The Beginning, is being touted as a strong contender for the song of the year title. Featuring the enchanting vocals of Sha Sha, arguably the industry’s best performing new female artist, the song is hella catchy.

  • KWESTA FEATURING RICH HOMIE QUAN – RUN IT UP

Every year, Kwesta has made it tradition to surprise fans with a big hit. And on Friday, the rapper took things up a notch when he liberated a new song, along with a music video, for Run It Up.

The song, in which he hooks up with an American muso for the first time since causing a stir by hosting Rick Ross in the township, finds Kwesta collaborating for the first time with the Atlanta native.

And unlike some of his peers, who often bolster such high powered masterstrokes with explosive reveals, Kwesta kept this feature under wraps until just days releasing to its premiere.

The visuals for the joint garnered high praises from fans for its authentic highlight of South African life both in the city and in the township. With this move, the Diamond selling rapper takes another aim at using his platform to present and elevate the township to the world’s imagination.

Kwesta hasn’t rapped this much in a lead single since skyrocketing through the commercial success of Ngud.

Here he delivers a smooth flow of lush verses over a laid back beat as Rich Homie Quan hovers a simmering vocal over the rich 808, giving the song an international urban finish.

JAZZIDISCPLES FEAT. MPURA & BARITONE HLOKZA – ILANGA

JazziDisciples make expensive music.

As one of the originators who championed the Amapiano genre, we expected them to scale up and drop a big one, and Ilanga is a smashing entry.

The song, which richly showcases the luxurious side of Amapiano, is a perfect display of how pianos are in fact at the centre of the country’s most popular sound currently. They play with it differently.

The duo, who have been announced as part of the AFROPUNK Joburg 2019 line-up, are known for their delightful sets, as well as keeping a rather low profile while constantly liberating respectable dance works that have continued to please lovers of Deep House music fans, as well as the Amapiano subculture.

BUCIE FEATURING KWESTA – THANDO LWETHU

We’d thought Bucie’s departure from the music scene will definitely leave a huge ice block.

It did, following the release of her last official album Rebirth in 2018. Fortunately for us all, the ‘Princess of House Music’ treated fans to a beautiful collaboration with Kwesta in February this year.

The love song recently got its music video, tossing it back at the forefront of the scene to peak its slow rise.

If all Bucie ever wanted was to write and sing beautiful songs that connect her with her audience at a deeper level, without all the trappings of fame, this song proves she might be mastering that.

Thando Lwethu celebrates the longevity of love that stands the test of time, outlasting the pessimistic outlook of detractors and pacing past the challenges of life to emerge as victorious love. It’s an ode.

SHA SHA FEATURING DJ MAPHORISA & KABZA DE SMALL – TENDER LOVE

At this point, these three can certainly announce they’ve decided to establish an official music group and no one would complain. Throw in Samthing Soweto, and we have the working formula!

After all, their collective catalogue of recent drops accounts for quite a number of the highest charting Top 20 songs on iTunes and Spotify, as well as on the radio.

The Zim born Sha Sha is the freshest of all these voices, and hers is a beautiful one! This being her breakout hit single in which she is the main attraction, Tender Love is a beautiful introduction of good things to come from the singer.

Samthing Soweto Apologises For Shocking Idols SA Performance

“Too many distractions” dribbled the singer.

Samthing Soweto apologises for Idols SA performance

In hot South African Music News, Afro Pop singer Samthing Soweto shared a social video in which he apologises for bizarre live performance on Sunday’s episode of Idols SA

He is known for the sheer range of his powerful voice, which he typically uses as an instrument to enchant crowds whenever he performs.

So Idols SA viewers were shocked when the Isphithiphithi hitmaker butchered his way through Akulaleki, his collaborative single with Shasha. But after the “horrible”performance, in which he growled and appeared to sing out of key throughout, the singer shared a short video apologising.

ALBUM REVIEW: SAMTHING SOWETO – ISPHITHIPHITHI

“I’m really sorry”, he said in the clip, which he posted on his social platforms shortly after his performance. “I don’t have an excuse. It’s just one of those days, you know?”

“Hopefully I have an opportunity to redeem myself.”

Real name Samkelo Lelethu Mdolomba, the singer continued to explain that Idols SA “is one of those platforms” that always dribbles him.

He said this in reference to the 2017 performance of his breakout hit, Akanamali, which also garnered him a fair share of online thrashing.

Samthing Soweto explained that Idols SA is a more complex production that the usual shows he’s done.

“There are so many moving parts (on Idols SA).  When you perform alone, there’s only the sound., maybe Bongikosi playing the guitar, or the band, and the DJ.”

“But when you are on Idols, there are so many moving parts. There’s dancers… so many distractions.”

Semi Tee, Miano and Kammu Dee Explain Controversial ‘Abantwana AmaUber’ Lyrics

The House producers behind the hit ‘Abantwana AmaUber’ explain how the song does not promote drug abuse

In fresh South African Music News, Semi Tee, Miano and Kammu Dee have finally cleared the air on why their Amapiano street anthem, Ambantwana AmaUber, does not promote drug abuse.

The song, which has catapulted the collaborative formation into instant stardom thanks to its catchy beat and hook, has also raised some questions about whether or not the lyrical content encourages the use of drugs.

After all, the Abantwana AmaUber song not only brazenly features lyrics that speak about sniffing substances, but has also come to be accompanied by a popular dance routine which depicts the act.

MORE MZANSI MUSIC NEWS: 5 SOUTH AFRICAN SONGS YOU SHOULD BE LISTENING TO!

But according to the hitmakers, the widespread perception that they are promoting the use of drugs couldn’t be further from the truth.

As it turns out, the song is in fact a call to young people to be vigilant against the scourge of drugs haunting township communities.

In an interview on Massive Music, Channel O’s hit music show, the three explained that the song was created to raise awareness and condemn the use of drugs.

Thina sipromoter ukuthi abantu basuke ezintweni ezibhedayo, yang’thola?” (We want people to stay away from bad thing, you know what mean?”, they explained.

“We say no drugs”, they said. “We want the township to change.”

According to the Amapiano scorcher cookers, it’s unfortunate that many people have misinterpreted the song.

The part of the song ‘labantwana ba wrong’ (these kids are wrong) suggests their use of drugs is being condemned, rather than promoted.
