Last week was a busy one in the world of AKA; He launched an app, shared the good news that his critically acclaimed, award-winning sophomore album – Levels – had finally reached double platinum in album sales, left fans startled with the announcement of his decision to end his tenure as an indie artist as he makes unexpected return to Vth Season, as well as news of a global deal with Sony Music.
Mind you, all of that unravelled back to back from a massive wave of big announcements that began with the announcement that he had decided to shut down his Beam Group company.
In March this year, Supamega had stated that Touch My Blood would be his final album as he now prepared to focus more on the business side of things – a lucrative space which included deals with global brands CRUZ Vodka and Reebok.
The Hip Hop artist, who had initially declared his latest and third album, Touch My Blood, as his final, also confirmed that nothing could be further from the truth.
ALBUM REVIEW: OUR THOUGHTS ON AKA’S NOT SO LAST ALBUM – TOUCH MY BLOOD
On the contrary, AKA is gushing about the new possibilities that come with the new deals.
“I am proud to announce my new partnership with SONY Music Africa an Vth Season”, he said in a statement. “This is a long-term global deal that will take my music to new heights for many albums. Cheers to the future!”
Putting the highly publicised bad blood between him and Vth Season behind – the label he feuded with for some time following what appeared to be a messy departure back in 2017, AKA is moving forward with the new deal to expand his reach.
The renewed partnership will see Vth Season and AKA create and market his music and brand across the continent and the world, it says here. Vth Season will also exclusively handle all of his bookings and touring that that will take place outside the country.
“There’s never been a stronger combination than Vth Season and AKA, and we are happy to be a part of it once more. We all know that AKA is a great musician and we are excited to bring that to the world,” shares Raphael Benza of Vth Season.
“We are very excited to have Kiernan Forbes back in the family. There is no doubt that AKA is one of the best and brightest that South Africa has ever produced, and we believe that, in partnership with ourselves, we have the ability to export the AKA brand, as well as many other talented artists that we have on our books, to the world. Here’s to many exciting things to come! Welcome back to the family, Kiernan Forbes!” expresses Refiloe Ramogase, General Manager of Sound African Recordings, a Division of Sony Music Entertainment Africa.
