Muzi Zuma has mastered more than just the art of make up that boasts clientele from the highest echelons of celebrity, but has also honed spotting the intersection of business, passion and risk taking. Yet despite all these successes at such a young age, Zuma is adamant to remain humble, focused and well, winning! Dive into her world and get your tips.

QuenchSA: In a nutshell, who is Muzi?
Muzi: This is literally the hardest question for me to answer. I think my whole life I’ve fully dedicated to accomplishing and reaching my goals that I’ve robbed “Muzi” focus. In a way though, that does say fully who Muzi Zuma is. Muzi is a die hard creative with a peculiar and different outlook to life, I love knowledge, life and people.
I’m a peoples person, that Dancefloor gem, wines best friend, but also that ‘slap’ of reality, that fresh perspective and the truth. My life is given substance through the people I welcome into it, thus I aim, to everyone I interact with, be of substance and positive influence. Muzi Zuma is a vessel set and determined to be of difference and an Activist for everything Individualism.
QuenchSA: How did you get into make up?
Muzi: This is actually a very funny story. I have never EVER aspired to be a Make Up Artist, let alone one of such stature. My teachers and peers who’ve grown up with me can attest to this. I came to JHB not knowing who I was or the desires I had for my life, I was an Interior Architecture & Design student (& current graduate) with media & entertainment industry aspirations.
I started working Part Time at YDE Cresta to get extra money as my course was highly demanding & expensive. 7 months into my journey with the YDE Company, a regular client of mine shouted at me and told me I belong in the cosmetic industry, she was certain that’s the industry that’s best suited for my personality & creativity.
I knew nothing of this industry but was curious. It was a different venture posing different challenges, so I looked into it. The following day I submitted my CV to Chris who was the (back then) Manager of the M.A.C in Cresta Mall, and as if God had so designed everything fell into place and on the 01st November 2011 my journey with make up & M.A.C Sandton began…
QuenchSA: Tell us more about Make Up By Muzi. Is that your empire in the works?
Muzi: In my growth whilst in the retail Industry, because of my dedication and passion, many who came across my path inspired me to venture deeper into this industry. I developed a serious passion, love and respect for my craft, which led to me perfecting my craft, mastering and developing my signature and being blessed with many angelic canvasses to enjoy this with.
I reached a point where I had experienced and learnt enough through retail, and my ADHD self craved more. Majority of my loyal customers had told me to branch out on my own cause they believed in me that much.
In January 2014, I was involved in a traumatic accident, which made me think; had things gone south, what legacy or impact would I have left behind? That’s when it hit me, life is too short for hopes and dreams. We literally only have today, now, to invest in our Legacy, so we should.
I spent the whole of 2014 after this, praying, fasting and seeking adult guidance, perspective & advice. Late November God blessed me with an answer to my prayers, and I gained the courage to do the hardest thing a 22 year old can ever do; leave the comfort of a salary, resign from a job and brand I loved with my everything and invest full trust in myself and my God. In February 2015, ‘Make Up By Muzi’ was born.
QuenchSA: More on Make Up Muzi
Muzi: ‘Make Up By Muzi’ is literally my everything. It is my passion, my focus and my dedication. It is to all extent my empire in the works. It is my priority to ensure that it becomes a beaming empire that Instils & inspires the youth out there to believe and venture into their dreams however minute, to them, they may seem, and know always that GOD is not only Greater but ahead.
QuenchSA: You boast an impressive clientele that has included Bonang, Thembi Seete and DJ Zinhle, amongst others. Take us through how all of that came about?
Muzi: It has always been a dream of mine as a young KZN child to meet all those I saw on TV, to sponge as much knowledge from these icons as possible, but God had greater plans. I love and respect the make up industry and my craft so much that it goes beyond who I’m doing.
Be it a celebrity or an ordinary person like me, I will give each Face Beat my all. I really believe, amongst others, It’s this quality that has made me the “sought after artist”. My chair has been graced by powerful figures such as Thembi Seete, Lizha James(Mozambique), DJ Zinhle to name a few, figures who fell in love with my craft and invested in it.
Marketing has never been a focal instrument to me. I’ve literally focused on mastering the quality of my work & product. I have literally been overwhelmed by personally witnessing my growth & development, and further assured that this is what I was born to do. Every face I do exemplifies my growth, it becomes my pride irrespective of who’s face it is, and thus will join my #InstagramMoments.
QuenchSA:  In a different life, what else would you be?
Muzi: I love knowledge and sharing it along with life and what it bestows upon us. In a different life, I see myself as an Architect of Words (An Author of global best sellers lol), and a motivational speaker dedicated to inject drive, ambition and goal driven mentalities to the youth at large.
On a career perspective I’m fascinated by genetics and neurology, highly influenced by the Amazing movie “True Story: The Gifted Hands of Benjamin Carlisle Story” so as the academic I was through high school & varsity I definitely see myself apart of those industries or Chemical Engineering/Biomimicry.
QuenchSA: What’s your end game? At which point will you look at yourself and think, “yes”, I have made it!
I don’t believe I was blessed with my knowledge, skills and tricks to be selfish with. My ultimate goal (no longer dream as I’m working my bones off to reach it), is to have a ‘Make Up By Muzi’ Academy (School) to pass on the traits the industry has taught me, and to have a greater, profitable and development based impact on this industry. There are millions of faces & canvas’ but very few Artists to explore and accentuate their natural beauty, uplift their self esteem and generate more business ventures.
The more entrepreneurial adventurers we as a nation produce, I guarantee you, the better the State our Nation will be.
In a few years from now I also dream of you & your children entering a mall and experiencing the best cosmetics & Art has to offer from MY Cosmetic Brand & Counter. I’m busy strategizing and developing a proposal of a South African born cosmetic brand & product that will reign as monumental as M.A.C, Bobbi Brown, Inglot etc currently is; these too had a Start, I’m currently there.
QuenchSA:  What items do you never leave the house without?
I never leave my house without my right hand life partner – my Personal Assistant, BFF & Sister Rudy Ackerman, my iPAD & iPhoneS (my life would end, literally), and of course my lipstick for the day (I can’t allow my selfies to suffer, Imagine? the travesty!) Before all this though, I’ve grown so fond of being indoors, that I never leave my house without a booking or a pressing reason. (Truth be told) without a booking or urgent reason it’s impossible for me to leave my bed let alone my house LOL.
QuenchSA: What’s the one make up tip every women should know?
Muzi: It’s fascinating and eye opening how rapidly people became conscious and religious followers of current beauty trends; most recent being Contouring. With this, I’d like to share with every one out there, man or woman (as contouring is Unisex), that this is a Make Up element where Technique is of utmost importance. Before one ventures the contouring & highlighting route, one needs to have had numerous consultations with retail artists, or at least tentatively viewed tutorials & “How To’s”
With this step of Make Up, every element is important from products, tools through to selected shades. Contouring is designed to accentuate and complement the honing & structure of our faces, we need to be highly conscious to never go too dark in Colour with the product we use to contour. To remain safe, I suggest, at most, going two shades darker than ones natural skin tone.
QuenchSA: And the worst make up crime you see being committed?
I literally am at a loss here. I don’t know how much more emphasis can be added on the importance of getting brows right if not as close to natural as possible. This is literally the greatest crime I daily see committed which has me grating my teeth and wishing I walk around with my eyebrow kit.
No one is born with Stencil Straight, cotton thin, McDonalds ‘M’ arched, uncomfortably close to each other, ‘to your hair line’ long, graphically/geometrically shaped etc. eyebrows guys. When we speak of eyebrow grooming or shaping it literally means taming/controlling unruly, full & bushy brows, accentuating the natural shape, and adding depth, Colour or texture.
What I feel women, mostly, need to remind themselves of is that their greatest strength (visually) lies in their brows. Our eyebrows complete our look; they can either Kill it, or complement it, they can also either distort the face or accentuate it’s beautiful, natural features.
QuenchSA: What’s next for Muzi?
Muzi: Eish! You see, this one is tough because of how tricky life is. It’s because of that, that I’ve literally endorsed a “one step at a time”, “one day at a time” kind of mentality. So literally what’s next for Muzi is my next beauty(client) LOL…
Honestly, what’s next for me is taking Make Up By Muzi international. I love and feed off challenges irrespective of how big, vast or daunting they are. I don’t want to fall trap & be comfortable with mastering my home ground market…
Although what’s very close to heart and my biggest dream to accomplish and sustain is developing a ‘home’ for some of the LGBTQI members who’ve been disowned and thrown out/abandoned by their respective families, and some of the young children/youth members of our “Kasi’s” who’ve fallen trap to drugs, debauchery or crime.

Squid Game Ending Explained; We’ve Been Scammed

We’ve been had, and Squid Game is here to prove it.

When the end of the South Korean horror drama arrives on the ninth episode, the winner finds himself harrowed by what the coveted prize has cost his soul. In the rat race for survival, along with a better life that hinges on the never ending hustle, there’s no time to stop and see the horror our lives become. By the end, we see how the winner has sold his soul for a crappy deal that came with a few toys, and a happy meal.

A group of 456 players are mysteriously invited to take part in a set of children’s games for a grand prize of $38 million, which will be enough to give the winner the financial freedom they desperately need. The players are selected from different walks of life, with the burden of excessive debt being their biggest motivation to give the Game a go.

The first of deepening terrors comes during the first game, when the players discover that penalties for losing in the challenges will be death. DEATH. Horrified, the players initially vote to leave and return to their lives.

This noble departure doesn’t last long; their material realities as fugitives on the run from debt collectors only highlights the glow of the precious promise they’ve now left behind. When they return for the second time, they now consent to their highly probable deaths.

Led by Lee Jung-jae, who plays Seong Gi-hun, a taxi driver with a gambling addiction, the South Korean series has become somewhat of a global phenomenon. Now the most streamed Korean series of all time, Squid Game is also said to be on pace to dethrone Bridgerton as the most streamed series in the history of Netflix. And it’s with good reason. Squid Game is a trip.

Survival is the drive. The blues of a broke life pile up for Seong Gi-hun, who’s daughter is being taken away to the US by her mother and step father. His mother is battling deteriorating diabetes and even in her frail condition, is still working hard to make ends meet. It’s during the peak of his frustrations that Gi-hun is randomly invited to take part in the Game.

After accepting the offer, he finds himself in a discreet location along with 455 players, who are also drowning in debt. The players are kept under an authoritarian system of surveillance. Masked guards in pink suits keep the scene under control under the supervision of the Front Man. Gi-hun allies with other players, including his childhood friend Cho Sang-woo, as a the most strategic way to survive the bloody challenges.

Amongst those that end up in this team is player 001, a frail old man who who became his “gganbu”. Sae-byeok, who was also in the team, was killed by Sang-woo, Gi-hun’s childhood friend, team member and flip-flopping ally. Several other team members had to be killed by their team mates, which revealed the wickedness of the games.

In the end, Gi-hun’s victory came without an apology. He had to defeat a close ally in the games, the old and frail player 001. They’d bonded throughout their time, but in the end he had to advance himself against those he’d built alliances. As the games progressed, the players found themselves having to face tough calls. Someone else has to die for you to make it another day.

After a series of brutal games, it comes down to childhood friends Gi-hun and Cho Sang-woo. They’d played different games, with Sang-woo having played hard and stopping at nothing to win. Gi-hun is mad at Sang-woo for a series of betrayals, including him stabbing Sae-byeok to her death. In the end, Gi-hun wins when Sang-woo apologised and kills himself.

Yet despite emerging a winner, Gi-hun finds that the cost of becoming an overnight billionaire has bankrupted his soul. For a year following the day his bank account was loaded with a nine zero figure, he didn’t touch the money. After all, he returned to find his mother dead on the floor. One of his motivations was getting the money to get her medical help over her advancing diabetes.

Gi-hun is clearly troubled by the bodies upon which his new wealth rests. A year passes and he hasn’t touched the money – even oddly reverting to old patterns of asking for loans to get by. It might be late to be so concerned about the moral questions surrounding the games now – the long and short of it is he won and his life has changed.

Later, he is shocked to find out that the “gganbu” who had to be killed after losing to him in a game of marbles, was never really killed.

In a shocking plot twist that changes everything – he also finds out that the old man is in fact the creator of the games! Finding him in a medical bed after receiving a mysterious invite to the location, Gi-hun discovers that the man’s real name is Oh Il-nam, an obscenely rich fella who created the games in 1988 (the same year Korea hosted the Olympics for the first time) purely for their entertainment. We already know by now that ‘the VIPs’ are a bunch of morally bankrupt elites who find pleasure in watching the poor masses slaughtering each other for money in a broken system. Where have we heard that before?

Although his participation in the games as player 001 was a farce, what he told Gi-hun back then, that he had a brain tumour, had been true. And of course, he challenged him to another sick game. A man had been freezing to death on a street pavement, and Oh Il-nam challenged Gi-hun to guess to bet on the odds that someone who help him when the clock strikes 00:00 at midnight. As Gi-hun wins, Oh Il-nam dies.

We assume this marks the end of the games. However later in the episode, Gi-hun sees the man who recruited him doing it to someone else. He runs to stop what is happening, but arrives at the exact scene late, the train has already taken off. Later on the way to boarding a flight, he turns and calls a number. “I can’t forgive you for everything you’re doing,” he tells ta man we assume to be In-ho. He turns back, clearly about to begin his new mission.

What we know now, is that Oh Il-nam created the games to tickle the sick tastes of his sick rich network. But he is now dead. Who is now behind the games? This, and Gi-hun’s passionate manifesto, are strong indications that next season of the series is already shaping up to a different arc. It’s his final transformation, and he is ready to take down the operation and those behind it. He won’t allow people to be “horses” for the entertainment of wealthy elites.

We know that In-ho shot Jun-ho in a bid to stop him from alerting the police about the games. The signal was bad, delaying the delivering of the evidence Jun-ho had been trying to send in several texts, right up to the moment the moment he plunged from a cliff and hit the water. What we don’t know is whether the messages were really not delivered. There’s also no conclusive evidence that Jun-ho is dead.

Potentially, the biggest lesson from season one is that our relentless pursuit for material success in a punishing money system kills us.

Midnight Mass is Creepy With A Dark Subtext and You Need To See it

‘God’s angel’ had sinister plans for the town.

The reign of terror plunges a small and quiet town to ashes when the arrival of a charismatic yet mysterious priest coincides with the return of a disgraced young man who has just been released from prison.

While Riley (Zach Gilford) initially finds that Crockett Island and its 127 residents – along with his childhood sweetheart Erin (Kate Siegel) – still conduct a mundane existence, Pastor Paul (Hamish Linklater) soon changes that.

Midnight Mass

“The LORD’s angel”‘s life giving blood comes scams locals into horrible mistakes on Midnight Mass.

When the island’s much loved Roman Catholic senior priest takes a trip to the pilgrimage and never comes back, an energetic new priest takes his place at the Holy Land church. And while his arrival brings with it a new wave of spiritual revival amongst the island community, something sinister begins to haunt the town.

With each episode, the esoteric occult that powers Paul’s ability to perform astounding miracles and mesmerise the islanders, slowly gains dominion over the unsuspecting community. Instead, they begin taking up a renewed interest in the church as word of mouth spreads about the signs and wonders. Much like Jesus Christ was able to draw crowds wherever he went, the appearance of Paul’s supernatural power is able to attract even those who’d remained sceptics their lives.

It’s the blending of the sacred and the sinister. The taking of communion that has been contaminated with demonic blood, which functions as the miracle drug promising eternal life.

We soon find out the miracles come at an unthinkable cost.
