The Big 5 Comedy Show Is Here For Your Good Laughs

LOL, lol , lol!

Published

on

Slap a “Big High 5” as some of the continent’s most sought-after performers get their act together for another comedy-and-music spectacular.

If your stomach muscles is up to it, do not miss this year’s national Big 5 Comedy Show supported by Comedy Central kicking off at the Teatro in Montecasino on Friday 26 July & Saturday 27 July.

Soak up the laughs when Stuart Taylor, John Vlismas, Schalk Bezuidenhout, Tats Nkonzo and Kurt Schoonraad take to the stage with plenty of fresh quips in their comedy arsenal.

After last year’s sold-out shows, this year’s edition promises to be another ground-breaker as Schalk and Tats join the line-up. No doubt these household names will add tang, spice and new angles to the Big 5 family.

The Big 5 Comedy Show

Entrepreneur, comedian and founder of Taylor Made Productions, Stuart Taylor once again returns as host with an even mightier team of funny men and a new line-up of exceptional talent.

The man who is “Going Everywhere Quickly”, Stuart is the ringmaster who has the experience and know-how to keep his audience knee-slapping with mirth while introducing each of the Big 5 acts.

A comic artist who has carved a fresh set of grooves on stage, Tats Nkonzo is a renowned treasure-chest of humour, who cleverly combines musical vibes and charming wit, both in South Africa and abroad.

The world is not enough for this talented artist who has won the Montreux Comedy Contest in Switzerland, back in 2014 and is currently a judge on the new global talent competition on CBS, ‘The World’s Best’ along with the likes of Drew Barrymore, Faith Hill and RuPaul.

Schalk Bezuidenhout has become a comic-giant, having racked up several nominations and awards whilst storming on the domestic and international stage.

His quirky ‘stache’ and ‘fro’ complement a sharp tongue and a unique take on modern society. This performer truly is the epitome of young and smart comedy which represents the future of this industry.

An innovator and stalwart of the comedy scene, Kurt Schoonraad joins the team with his brilliant and witty jabs, all delivered with a distinct Cape Town flavour.

A long road of fame and success which includes numerous local and international performances, as well as several film appearances, has made his performances truly exceptional, so prepare for loads of belly-laughs when he takes to the stage.

One of the heavy weights of SA Comedy, John Vlismas needs little introduction after many years on the comic circuit. Thought-provoking in his approach, there are no sacred cows he leaves untouched to bring his audience a different perspective.

Get ready to rethink your opinions while laughing out loud with John’s unique style which completes the line-up for this awesome show.

Returning for more, The King of Beats is back. Big 5 Comedy’s resident scratch boss and legend, DJ Ready D, will use his award-winning skills to create an electric atmosphere. But be warned – he may just having you dancing in the aisles!

“It feels as if the Big 5 Comedy brand has come of age and we are excited about how we can take the audiences’ experience to new levels in 2019. The hallmark of Big 5 Comedy has always been this: uncompromising quality with regards to not only the acts on the bill, but also the overall experience for the comedy lover in the audience.” Stuart Taylor, Producer & Host

Raphael Saadiq, Tiwa Savage, Corinne Bailey Rae in Delicious Fest Line Up

One of the hottest events on the Joburg calendar has unveiled a bevy of international and local acts for this year’s looming affair.

Published

on

Raphael Saadiq part of the DStv Music and Food Festival 2019 line up

Since the beginning of time two fundamental experiences have brought people together in harmony – food and music, and no event in the world has achieved this quite like the DStv Delicious International Food and Music Festival.

This year, the team at DStv Delicious International Food and Music Festival have outdone themselves by adding even more flavour and a world class line-up to celebrate Heritage Weekend at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit on the 21st and 22nd of September.

International megastars Raphael Saadiq, Corinne Bailey Rae, Tiwa Savage and a host of artists from Kalawa Jazmee Records (to be announced) will perform live on the Delicious Main Stage in what is being tipped as the biggest DStv Delicious International Food and Music Festival to date.

If you need a living definition of delicious music, look no further than Corinne Bailey Rae who is consistent proof of that. The RnB / Soul legend was the fourth female artist in British history to have her first album debut at number one.

Amongst many other nominations and awards to list, she has scooped two prestigious Grammy Awards, and her soulful songs feature in many TV series and films.

Joining Corinne Bailey Rae on the Delicious Main Stage is none other than Africa’s shining star, Tiwa Savage. Hailing from Lagos, Nigeria, Tiwa Savage has taken the world by storm and will give an all African excellence at DStv Delicious International Food and Music Festival.

With an academic background in music and having shared the stage with the likes of Beyonce and Davido, she will bring a high musical IQ whilst keeping every person at the festival on their feet in a production that continues to wow the masses.

Known for some of our favourite tunes “Lova Lova”, “All Over”, and “Ma Lo” featuring Wizkid & Spellz, you should polish up your afro-beat dance moves and wear your favourite kicks because second of her on the breathtaking stage will be a wololo.

On Saturday, 21st September festival goers will celebrate 25 Years of Kalawa Jazmee Records on the Delicious Main Stage. This record label has not only defined culture these last 25 years, but its music and artists have played an integral role in each of our South African lives.

Lira to perform at DStv Delicous Fest

South African’s always knew what time it is with Boom Shaka, and they boldly told abuti to “bula boot” with Thebe. There are memories of Uhuru, Mafikizolo, Brothers of Peace, and so many more of the Kalawa Jazmee Records’ artists ingrained in the identity held as a nation, and as individuals.

It is with great joy and honour that the record label and some of these culture-shifting, heritage-influencing acts will be closing off the Delicious Main Stage in a true celebration of the South Africa we love.

Other carefully handpicked performances on the Delicious Main Stage on Saturday, 21st September are the Ralf Gum All Stars featuring Monique Bingham, Mafikizolo, Kafele Bandele, Portia Monique, Ayanda Jiya, Bongi Mvuyana, Joseph Junior, and Nivalito.

The Sunday Delicious Main Stage line-up will include Ralf Gum All Stars, the “Suited” smash-hit singer Shekinah, the ever graceful Lira, and Tortured Soul featuring Lisa Shaw will bring us to our feet with their hits “Don’t Hold Me Down” and “Enjoy It Now”.

Headlining the show on Sunday 22nd September is the phenomenal artist with a deep contemporary creative vision – the epic singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer Raphael Saadiq. With an impeccable past of multi-faceted creation and soul-evolution this hugely gifted musician will no doubt pull on your heartstrings.

He has received many well-deserved awards not to mention three Grammys. Raphael has collaborated with the likes of Macy Gray, the late Whitney Houston, John Legend, Snoop Dogg, Joss Stone, Lionel Richie, Mary J. Blige and many more. As an innovative artistic powerhouse, he was even included in Time Magazine’s Top 100 Most Influential People in 2012.

This August, Raphael is dropping his first solo album in eight years and it promises to bring even more magic to our ears.

He has also announced that “Tony! Toni! Tone!” will be reuniting to bring our favourite hits to stages around the world! This man is pure artistic soul who never fails to impress and promises an immersive live performance that’ll usher you into your Heritage Day.

The music doesn’t begin and end on the Delicious Main Stage. DStv Delicious International Food and Music Festival has partnered up with Red Bull to bring you the Red Bull presents the Delicious Dance Arena. The Dance Arena performances will be announced soon.

It is only through the support of several sponsors that this sensory extravaganza can take place and inspire so many people.

This festival is in proud association with DStv who’ve been part of the Delicious story from the very beginning, and Samsung, VISA, Engen, South African Airways, Jeep, Flight Centre, Red Bull, Johnnie Walker, Windhoek, Proudly South African and The Star who have helped to make it all happen.

“As DStv, we pride ourselves in providing our customers with only the best in local and international entertainment at their fingertips. We look forward to once again bringing our customers world-class experiences with their favourite food, music and lifestyle shows.”

“DStv is delighted to be part of such a colourful and indulgent festival that brings friends and families together under one beautiful African sky.

MTN Bushfire Festival 2019 Ultimate Survival Guide

Here’s a full breakdown of what you should and should not do when making your way to Bushfire Festival

Published

on

Bushfire Festival 2019 survival guide, Everything you need to know about Bushfire, Bushfire rules, bringing alcohol to Bushfire

With days to go until MTN BUSHFIRE 2019, it’s time to get ready! Go through all the important stuff for the festival to avoid being those people who ruin it for yourselves and worse still, for everyone else, because you weren’t in the loop on the tea.

Firstly, make sure you have your tickets secured before you arrive as tickets are already SOLD OUT and there will be NO tickets available at the gate. This applies to day tickets as well as full festival passes.

There will also be NO camping tickets available on site as these are also all completely SOLD OUT.

Also, remember that the official MTN Bushfire campsite Campsite Check In Desk opens at 11 on Thursday but closes at midnight and opens again on Friday at 9 until midnight on Saturday. We encourage you to get to the border early on Thursday and avoid the queues.

GETTING TO MTN BUSHFIRE

MTN BUSHFIRE is in the scenic Malkerns Valley at House on Fire, located about a 5 hour drive from Johannesburg, 23km from the capital city, Mbabane, and is a short 14km from Ezulwini.

Key in the following GPS coordinates- Elevation 756m – S 26’ 29.881 E031’ 13.110 to find us or using the Google Maps House on Fire coordinates.

Some reminders for everyone traveling to Ewatini– please remember that over 20,000 people attend MTN Bushfire, many of them coming from outside of Eswatini and the borders can be heavy with traffic.

Consider using one of the lower volume border posts such as the Sandlane / Nerston Border post, (althougth some of these may keep shorter hours than Golela and Oshoek), for more information visit our website or Swazi Tourism.

All of Eswatini’s border posts are open seven days a week, but if you are using the Oshoek border post it is highly recommended to plan to arrive in Eswatini on Thursday or early Friday as the border post has seen extremely long queues Friday afternoon and evening in previous years.

Although the border post at Oshoek is open until midnight, we HIGHLY recommend getting there as early as possible on Friday.

You will require a passport to enter Eswatini, and please make sure you have checked the visa requirements. Check HERE

SOUTH AFRICA REQUIRES ADDITIONAL PAPERWORK TO BRING MINORS ACROSS THE BORDER! PLEASE ENSURE UNABRIDGED BIRTH CERTIFICATES AND OTHER NECESSARY PAPERWORK IS SECURED BEFORE YOU LEAVE!

ATTENDEES MAY BE REQUIRED TO PRODUCE IDENTIFICATION TO ENTER THE EVENT – ONLY ORIGINAL ID BOOKS/CARDS, DRIVERS LICENCE CARDS & PASSPORTS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

#BRINGYOURFIRE

MTN Bushfire also encourages all guests to support the #BRINGYOURFIRE call towards sustainability and reducing the festival’s carbon footprint. So here are some ways you can help to Green Your Fire!

– Please bring reusable bags; plastic bags and polystyrene or styrofoam containers are not allowed in.

– Bring unused clothing to donate to orphans and vulnerable children through the Young Heroes initiative. Donations will be accepted at the gate.

– Carpool or share rides to the festival to lessen your carbon footprint.

– Use the recyclables and non-recyclables bins correctly!

To further reduce our carbon footprint – this year the festival is PAPERLESS.

To get all the performance starting times, the lastest festival info, park and ride schedules and more – guests are encouraged to download the MTN Bushfire Festival app available in the App Store and Google Play stores tht will be available from Tuesday, May 21st .

Once again, MTN Bushfire, including the campsite, will be cashless. Your access armband will enable you to charge up with cash or credit cards throughout the festival venue.

ATM’s are available on festival grounds and accept Mastercard & VISA cards. To load your account prior to arriving at MTN Bushfire or for more information on charging and securing refunds after the festival please visit: howler.co.za

Another way to #BringYourFIre is to donate the leftover funds on your wristband.
Simply head to the main top up station, TAP OUT with boMake Rural Projects and help build resilient and thriving communities in Eswatini.

KIDS

Open on Saturday & Sunday from 10am to 6pm, the MTN Bushfire’s Kidzone offers a safe and secure environment with 24 hour security and first-aid provided throughout the festival weekend.

It is compulsory for all kids to be accompanied by parents into the zone and registered to make sure they are accounted for.

No child is allowed in or out of the space without a wristband and all parents are compelled to provide their contact details upon entry, which will also be transferred onto the child’s festival wristband.

There will be trained child minders assisting in looking after everyone in the kid zone, however parents are still responsible for their kids and are advised not to leave them for long periods unsupervised.

PARK N RIDE

If you are staying off site – please make sure you have a designated driver as drinking and driving is taken very seriously in Swaziland and road blocks are common. Don’t drink & drive Identify a designated, Watch your speed, Stay alert & arrive alive.

MTN Bushfire’s Park and Ride system, powered by Motor Vehicle Accident fund and Total, offers shuttles to and from the festival site and various pick-up/drop-off points.

This system will commence on 26 May 2016 and run for the duration of the festival, operating along the Mbabane- Malkerns- Manzini corridor.

The pick-up points are:Mbabane (The Mall – outside Harvey World Travel), Ezulwini (The Gables – outside Spur) and Manzini (The Hub – outside SwaziNet) Shuttles will operate on an hourly basis to and from the festival, starting at 17:00 on Friday, running until 03:00.

On Saturday, the service will run from 10:00 to 04:00 and on Sunday from 10:00 to 19:00. The cost of the shuttle is E20 per trip.
