adidas Ultraboost Arrives in South Africa
The Boost is maximised for performance and functionality.

December 2, 2019
adidas Running has revealed the adidas Ultraboost 20 in partnership with the International Space Station (ISS) U.S. National Laboratory, once again revolutionising its iconic leading performance running shoe.
Drawing parallels with the construction of a space shuttle in which every part has a unique purpose, each element in the adidas Ultraboost 20 has been maximised for a specific performance-driven function, allowing athletes to elevate their performance to new heights.
The new silhouette is the result of relentless torture testing in the lab, countless hours of research, and feedback from thousands of runners; the ultimate combination of comfort and responsiveness, designed to give runners the confidence to go beyond.
SNEAKER NEWS: SOUTH AFRICAN SNEAKER BRAND ‘BATHU’ SCALES UP
adidas Ultraboost 20’s new and advanced Primeknit upper features Tailored Fiber Placement (TFP) technology. The innovative technique lays down fibers to the millimeter, resulting in a high-performance, lightweight upper which is precisely stitched and constructed.
From take-off to landing, runners can initiate control with a shoe that exactly calibrates foot support to fully unleash the explosive energy of boost.
Meanwhile, the Boost midsole captures the energy in every stride and returns it at toe-off to propel runners forward, allowing them to take their run to the next level with out-of-this-world energy return.
At the same time, the 3D Heel Frame – a stripped-back design which cradles the heel and locks it firmly in place – brings the perfect mix of adaptability and support. The adidas Ultraboost 20 features:
- Primeknit with TFP – An evolutionary upgrade to adidas Ultraboost 19, the Primeknit now features data-driven Tailored Fibre Placement technology, which lays down fibres to the millimeter to create an upper that delivers calibrated support and a flexible fit for each runner’s foot
- Optimized Boost – the adidas Boost midsole captures the energy in every stride and returns it at toe-off to propel the runner forward, offering high energy return every step of the way
- Stretchweb – The Stretchweb outsole works in harmony with the Boost midsole while Continental rubber gives maximum traction on all surfaces
- Torsion Spring – A lightweight construction for enhanced support on landing and a snappy transition to propel runners forward.
Announced earlier in November 2019, as part of its open-source culture of collaboration, adidas has officially partnered with the ISS U.S. National Lab to innovate, learn, and share information with the vision of co-creating the future of sports performance.
Beyond integrating aerospace grade technology with the adidas Ultraboost 20 and as part of the ground-breaking long-term partnership, adidas will send Boost technology on a mission up to the ISS.
In space, the scientists will study the BOOST molding process without the distraction of Earth’s gravity, so adidas can unlock the future of boost. The objective is to leverage the findings at scale in BOOST midsoles of the future.
Adorned with an ISS U.S. National Laboratory space patch, the adidas Ultraboost 20 pays homage to this upcoming mission and as a symbol of the partners commitment to innovate. Through its partnership with the ISS, adidas has gained deep insight into how astronauts, prepare for the physical and mental strain of living in space.
With these insights and in collaboration with EXOS – a world-leading human performance lab – adidas has created an exclusive workout program for runners worldwide to challenge themselves and experience what it takes to train like an astronaut.

The only thing better than securing a clean pair of brand new kicks is getting a dope set that is authentically South African.
Being clad in local innovation isn’t just cool as a political statement; but also because our designers are kicking ass. One such brand is Bathu, who are looking into disrupting and elevating the current local landscape this summer.
The South African sneaker brand is scaling their business to avail their sneakers nationally, and it’s a first.
RELATED SNEAKER NEWS: PUMA’S ICONIC 80’s “RIDERS’ ARE BACK!
Conceptualised and established in the streets of Alexandra, Johannesburg, in 2015, Bathu has experienced exponential commercial growth and cultural value. From moving their drops in the streets to the successful launch of four major retail stores throughout the country.
The #YamaSupa is a first from Bathu and draws inspiration from a multitude of South African cultures. With the creative mojo ‘Abafana be style, abo sisi bama weave, wonke ama kasi alles, this is for you.’
The Bathu architects are elated about this next move.
NEW SNEAKER RELEASES: ADIDAS LAUNCHES NEW HOME CLASSICS PACK
“As a brand, we have not done something of this magnitude, and we have an ambition of pushing beyond set boundaries with not only our sneaker designs but also how we communicate with our people” says Theo Baloyi, founder and CEO of Bathu.
Adding, “We are extremely excited to be bringing something that we hope will be an advocate for change in the current worldview of locally produced brands, also allowing for the nation a glimpse into our daily lives. People should be on the lookout for us and what we have in store this season”

80’s Legend PUMA RIDER Is Back With A Playful Splash
PUMA brings back some of that 80’s swag with splashes of bright colour to the modern aesthetic on their iconic PUMA Riders
Published

October 24, 2019
In the latest sneaker news, PUMA’s legendary 80’s running shoe, the Fast Rider has made a return to make a vibrant, playful splash on the streets.
The iconic retro style – which once brought the fun of running to the streets – has been revamped to launch the FUTURE RIDER OG and STYLE RIDER OG as the next generation of playful, casual-cool street style.
Commemorating Germany’s first-ever jogging shoe
As part of the first drop, PUMA will bring back the FAST RIDER OG to celebrate the iconic running shoe from the 1980s, that kicked off a new era as Germany’s first “jogging” shoe 40 years ago.
In the 80s, more and more people picked up running to become fit – or simply for fun – and took the sports from the track to the street.
MORE SNEAKER NEWS: THE PUMA X SUE TSAI COLLECTION HAS ARRIVED
To cater to the needs of those asphalt joggers, PUMA developed the state-of-the-art Federbein technology, which imitated the suspension of cars, for enhanced shock absorption and comfort.
Needless to say that the upcoming FAST RIDER OG features the shock-absorbing Federbein outsole with a RIDERFOAM midsole for high rebound.
Revamped for the next Generation Casual-Cool Streetstyle
For the FUTURE RIDER OG and STYLE RIDER OG, PUMA has merged the best of the past and the future: future silhouettes, newly developed RIDERFOAM for extra comfort, bold materials and playful 80s colour blocking.
The FUTURE RIDER OG comes in the 80s contemporary yellow/blue colourway, with nylon upper and overlays in suede. Inspired by the original “Federbein”, the FUTURE RIDER OG features a subtle corrugated outsole and TPU heel stabilizer for more steadiness.
MORE SNEAKER NEWS : NOMZAMO MBATHA IN PUMA NOVA SNEAKER
The STYLE RIDER OG showcases new materials with breathable mesh and overlays in suede, a bulky midsole plus the new shock-absorbing RIDERFOAM for high rebound and the subtle corrugated outsole for a reduced look.
The FAST RIDER OG (R1499), the FUTURE RIDER OG (R1599) and the STYLE RIDER OG (R1899) are dropping at PUMA Select stores from 26 October 2019.
