The Soweto International Jazz Festival Coming up This June

Here to reimagine the blue print of Jazz festivals in South Africa – International Arts Solutions together with GOG Lifestyle Parks  presents the annual Soweto International Jazz Festival, scheduled for June 14 – 16 2019.

Recognized for aiming to bridge the gap in African derived music and culture, the festival overtly promotes a cultural exchange between South African and International musicians.

The carefully curated line-up will consist of multiple genres and artists from South Africa, Caribbean and the USA. They will be on display on three (3) stages at Joburg’s new destination for large-scale family events, the GOG Gardens Soweto.

Established in 2018, the festival is keen on celebrating a wide spectrum of South Africa’s favourite musical genres and cultures.

It artfully combines the art of creating music with extraordinary performances, audience exchanges and a first-class lifestyle experience into an International music festival that will appeal to a variety of ages globally. Each day of the three-day festival will don a distinct theme:

June 14th – Young Kings/Queens Day; dedicated to the youth and will feature a healthy dose of Hip Hop, R&B and House Music.

June 15th  International Day; will feature global acts with a multi genre approach.

June 16th – Inspirational Day; will feature Gospel and Jazz music.

The Soweto International Jazz Festival is also committed to promoting youth empowerment and women advancement, primarily with pre-events dedicate to the business development in the music industry for young entrepreneurs and networking master classes for existing and aspiring women small business owners.

An emphasis will be placed on social-fashion trends, food and urban lifestyle will brazenly be on display at this year’s Soweto International Jazz Festival. The musical philosophy of the festival is built on the celebration and promotions of amazing and accomplished artists.

The first wave of artists to be announced includes some of South Africa’s leading artists such as the legendary Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse; Jazz fusion guitarist Ernie Smith; highly celebrated breakout artist Lady Zamar; Micasa; Grammy award winning Soweto Gospel Choir and Internationally acclaimed Pieces of a Dream and Julian Vaughn. A second wave of artists is slated to be announced soon.

A variety of tickets and weekend packages are available for purchase at – including early bird tickets which are on sale for a limited time.

Be sure to look out for more exciting announcements and more artist reveals, as the countdown to Soweto International Jazz Festival begins.

Masego To Perform in South Africa this May

TrapJazzHouse singer, Masego, will be performing at an ultimate backyard festival this May.

Masego to South Africa 2019

Masego will be performing in South Africa on May 1st.

The Tadow singer made the announcement on Monday via his Twitter account. He revealed that Flying Fish is flying him out to Johannesburg for a one night only show.

The show is being plugged as a “once in a lifetime immersive experience brings together Mzansi’s most flavoursome artists across the board, from music to fashion and art, to perform alongside International artist Masego, heading to SA soil.”

The 26 year old ‘TrapHouseJazz’ will not be landing in South Africa for the first time. Real name Micah Davis, Masego toured the land in 2018, where he played at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival.

The Jamaican bred American artist first stumbled upon the name ‘Masego’ after doing some research and finding out that he has South African roots.

“I started to understand how all the names had meaning and there was proud for every single name. That inspired me”, he told EWN in an interview. “The name that stuck out to me was Masego. I saw that it meant blessing and prosperity and it said the language was in Setswana.”

“My nickname in church was Lil Blessing because I could play all these instruments. So it made so much sense to make it my stage name.”

Tickets to the Flying Fish Flavour Chillas shindig are available at R350. The event is set to take place at the UItimate Backyard, Long Meadow Farms in Fourways, Johannesburg.

Riky Rick Has Curated The First Ever Annual Cotton Fest

Riky Rick is the conceptual architect behind looming event – The Annual Cotton Fest

Riky Rick Cotton Festival

There’s no lack of evidence that he is one hell of a concept curator. And the multi-talented KZN born entertainer and fashion-forward Riky Rick today officially announced the full local line-up for the first annual Cotton Fest taking place in Johannesburg next month.

Riky Rick Cotton Festival lineup

First revealed on his social media late last year, this inaugural one-day festival was created to merge both established and upcoming/underground SA talent onto one combined platform, while offering a safe and high energy space to experience both music and fashion.

Mainly created to showcase the diversities while fusing the gaps within the various hip-hop sounds and local movements, the Cotton Fest will not only bring together and unite over 80 unique acts divided over 2 stages, but will also celebrate fashion in its various forms and spheres.

This first of its kind curated event will be limited to 5000 ‘one-priced’ tickets and will take place on Saturday, 2nd February at the The Station in Newtown.

“It’s An Exciting Time To Be African” – Sho Madjozi On Her Looming One Source Live Show

Fresh from a bevvy of successful international music performances – a list which includes a debut appearance at the AfroPunk stage in the States –  Sho Madjozi sustains her winning streak as she preps for her looming performance at the upcoming One Source Live Festival.

The beautifully curated and culturally effervescent music fest will be taking place November 17th at The Sheds, 1 Fox Street.

The contemporary Pan-Africanist will cook up no less than three fresh scorchers with what will undoubtedly be a masterstroke of creative genius featuring producers Tboy da Flame, Master KG and Makwa. She’s also roped in rappers Big Hash, Dee Koala and Jovie Jovv, along with singers Makhadzi, Nelisiwe and Mthandeni ft Gcokama Elisha.

Her collaborative selections are aligned with her artistic instinct, an anchor grounding her in her roots.

“I chose my collaborators because they represent what I’m looking for, which is young African artists who are genuinely exciting and can be popular in Jozi and Thohoyandou and everywhere in-between”, She said.

“This is an exciting time to be African, and we are here to be part of that pan-African revolution.”

As one of the Absolut Creative Revolutionaries – along with Khuli Chana, Trevor Stuurman and Osborne Macharia who will also gift festival-goers with their works – Sho Madjozi will be curating one of the most awe-inspiring acts in her young career. After all, the Discovery Stage is where you showcase when you are on the cusp of a serious career breakthrough.

Friends, fans and followers will be treated to a packed programme that will engage all their senses. Besides the Sho Madjozi action on the Discovery Stage, there’ll be the Absolut Art Bar, the epicentre of the festival featuring curated art and performance space by day which will transform into the headline stage after dark.

The Street Zone is where creativity goes back to its source with art installations, food trucks, a street performance stage, fashion pop-ups and street photographers.

The One Source Live bill is heavy with disrupters and visionaries in the form of Zulu rooted and global star S’java, the Hip-Hop beatnik Shane Eagle, DJ PH, the party starter kokomaster D’Banj and Gqom Nation kings, Distruction Boyz. Topping it all with an unmissable throwback to a time of unique sound innovation will be Kwaito legends, Trompies.
