Real Housewives of Johannesburg: The Season’s Shadiest Episode Yet!

Lerika and Olwethu have shaken up the show’s dynamics and we wonder how things will look by the end of this heated first season

Real Housewives of Johannesburg

Friday night’s episode of The Real Housewives of Johannesburg has truly shaken table. As we edge closer to the end of the first season, we couldn’t help but wonder if the main cast will change dramatically when the show returns for a second coming. It looks like that Lerika and Olwethu aren’t playing with their bag!

Lerika shocked everyone when she appeared to be throwing her friend, Naledi, under the bus during a super shady roundtable over champagne review of Brinnette’s recent bachelorette party, which the girls are slamming for lacking “dirt” and “naughtiness.”

When Madam suggested that the shindig’s MC (Naledi) added to the dryness, Lerika failed to come to BFF’s defence, and instead remarked that she would be on the lookout for someone more fun for her own hypothetical party.

Her flip-floppy stunt earned her some wrath from the Mogases, who now feel that her intentions aren’t clear. Though there’s now no doubt, we need more Lerika on the show!

Lendy was still a no-show and we are starting to wonder if she will be returning for another season. We love that she’s quite an interesting fit on the show, always misfiring with her random and awkward – but still quite hilarious – jokes and jabs.

We’d hoped to see more of her this season; her life seems interesting enough and she’s clearly not afraid to speak her mind (leave for that one bizarre scene with her advancing disparaging comments to the help).

But, to be honest, we’ve had more consistency from friends of the show that we’ve had from her. Will she be stepping aside?

Naledi, who seems to be quite busy with one thing or another, has missed another episode.  Yet, her absence hasn’t really affected much, particularly with her friend Lerika really bringing us some tea on the show, part of which has been shading her. We wonder if there will be a fallout there. But we also wonder if Naledi will be coming back for season 2; and this time to show us more of her life, and invite us to her house?

And while Christall was not invited to the girls outing as it was arranged by her arch-rival – and the show’s apparent Queen B – Madam, she threw hectic shade at Olwethu, who brought her baby, again, without adding a note to her RSVP. Christall, who gave us some fierce sex appeal during her live performance of her song Wonder in a sheer number, didn’t beat around the bush in saying that she had no intentions of her spending her afternoon faffing over a baby. Damn!

Mercy’s friend, Pinky, came under fire from, well, Mercy. In a shocking twist of events, Mercy read Pinky to filth, saying that unlike her, she could never have an unplanned baby. Her remarks led to some heartfelt moments of Pinky revealing that she fell preggers at 22 after a diagnosis that gave her a scare of never being able to conceive.

Friday’s episode was a real shadefest, and it left us wondering how the dynamics between the girls will change.

Real Housewives of Johannesburg airs Fridays at 19:00 on 1Magic, DStv channel 103

Yanga Wins Idols SA Season 14!

The 17-year-old on Sunday became one of the youngest contestants to bag the title

Yanga wins Idols SA

The race between Yanga and Thato came to a dazzling conclusion tonight when 17-year-old Yanga snatched victory to become South Africa’s next superstar.

Mzansi collectively held its breath as millions of eyeballs trained on host Proverb, crossing fingers for their favourite to be named the SA Idols Season 14 winner. Yanga, who becomes the second consecutive teenage girl from the Western Cape to win the title after last year’s Paxton, becomes an instant millionaire thanks to a staggeringly awesome prize package that includes a record deal, car and a myriad of other glamorous prizes.

“I can’t put into words how I feel right now, but I can say it in song,” said a shell-shocked Yanga a few seconds after her name was called, before bursting into a gratitude chorus.

Her runner-up, Thato, gave her a warm congratulatory hug and thanked Mzansi for the immerse support. And what support South Africa has shown, with a season record of 142 million votes, surpassing the targeted 100 million that Proverb had set in the beginning of the season.

After gruelling months of sweat, blood and tears, tonight was a two-hour celebration of a great season that saw some of the youngest contestants on the Idols stage in a while.

Idols SA: Thando Sent Home as Thato and Yanga Sprint To The Finish Line!

Published

on

The road to the SA Idols final may have come to an end for Thando, but last night’s live show was more of a celebration than a sad farewell.

The Top 10 made a surprise return to the stage to memorialise the record-breaking 110 million votes garnered over the season so far, with nearly 22 million of those coming in over the past week as Mzansi fans fought to keep their favourites in the competition.

Small in stature and big in voice, Alberton’s pride leaves Idols with a bagful of memories and an amazing experience including a Dubai trip and a newly-recorded single called Wasting Time, which she performed live and is already available on most digital platforms.

Yanga and Thato, who Mzansi chose as their finalists for Season 14, also debuted their first-ever singles tonight.

Yanga received a standing ovation from the audience and two of the judges for her deeply emotive performance of Scars (All Over Me), which left Unathi near-tears and calling her “wonderous”. Somizi was happy that she took his advice last week to “not relax” until the competition is over. Randall told her: “You have chosen to be a winner.”

Thato’s single, Blow By Blow, is an up-tempo breakup tune where he seeks to understand what happened to the love. Somizi didn’t think the song suited him but agreed with the other judges that his energy and performance keep drawing people in and make him one of the most likeable contestants on the show.

Their second performance was preceded by lively entertainment courtesy of the vibrant Tsonga rap princess Sho Madjozi, performing her hit Huku.

When the finalists came back for the Theatre Week song, they blessed Mzansi with even more beautiful music. Yanga sang Heaven by Emeli Sande, and Thato’s song was Sam Smith’s I’m Not The Only One.

Tonight, the Idols certainly pushed boundaries as they sang three songs each. Their last performance was Song Of The Season, which they felt was their best. Yanga went with Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart by Alicia Keys. Thato chose If by Davido, closing off the last ever voting show of the season.

Unathi surmised Yanga by calling her a blessing to Mzansi. “Thank you for sharing your gift on music with us, and I’m honoured to have been witness to your greatness.” Somizi said he was a happy man and at peace, and Randall told her “You’ve got it!”

Thato was also showered with great compliments. Randall even did a “zaka zaka; whoo shem!” for him, shortly before Somizi bestowed his own upon him. Unathi said: “You make us fall in love with you; that’s your power. Thank you for your gift!”
