Idols SA S14: 9 Million Votes Crown This Year’s Top 10!

Idols SA Season 14: Top 10

Nine million votes were cast for Idol SA season 14’s Top 10, and the show’s host Proverb barely made it through the tense atmosphere as the announcement made six hopefuls would not be moving forward!

The season’s first live show featured performances from some of the country’s hottest acts – including Tipcee, Thami, Heavy K, Lady Zamar, DJ Maphorisa, TDK Macassette, Zulu Mkhathini and Moonchild.

Say Hello to your Top 10!

Basimane Boys Melato aka King B (19) was the first to hear the magic words “You’re in the Top 10!” from host Proverb. The HR student from Kagiso has been a firm favourite since his dazzling Theatre Week performance that saw him get a standing ovation, which he followed up with another crowd-pleasing performance during the Top 16 Boys show. He reciprocated the love with his now trademark vosho…as Kings do!

The teenagers are certainly not here to play.

Yanga Sobetwa (17) is flying the Generation Z flag high and proud. Following the footsteps of last season’s teen victor, Paxton, Season 14’s youngest contestant has stepped out of the Cape Town township of Langa straight into the national spotlight. Could she be next star from Langa, like the timeless Brenda Fassie?

Nosipho Silinda (18) recently celebrated her birthday in the Idols house, and South Africa gifted the Grade 11 pupil from Ladysmith in KZN with a spot in the Top 10.

Ntokozo Makhathini (18) must be drinking the same Witbank water as her neighbour, Idols season nine winner Musa. Whatever it is, she’s keeping her small town on the map with her inclusion in the Top 10. It looks like her passion for conservation tourism will have to wait a little longer.

Zamagambu Memela aka Xae (19) made Idols history by becoming the first contestant to get a Golden Ticket autographed – by all the judges. While that was a sweet but meaningless gesture, making it into the Top 10 is a big deal for the youngster from Pinetown, Durban.

Thando Mngomezulu (19) finally overcame her crippling lack of confidence to give a dynamite performance that saw the country showing their appreciation with votes. South Africa spoke, the judges listened, and Thando from Jozi made it to the Top 10.

Mthokozisi Nqcobo (20) may have had only two pairs of shoes when he first auditioned, but his spot in the Top 10 proves walking in them to the audition was worth it. The Umlazi, Durban, native is finally on stage doing what he says heals his heart – singing.

Thato Makape (23) is the epitome of courage and determination, as his inclusion in the Top 10 proves. A barber from Postmasburg in the Northern, Makape travelled nearly 10 000km for an audition in Cape Town. Tonight, South Africa showed him that the journey was worth it.

Lincoln Lewis (22) from Ravensmead on the Cape Flats has been bringing fire every time he steps on stage. After being told he had given judges “the best audition of the season so far”, he went on to impress during Theatre Week and received a unanimous thumbs-up for his Top 16 performance. Now South Africa wants to see more.

Niyaaz Arendse (22) snatched the last spot in the Top 10. After many years of rejection on the show, it was no wonder the youngster from Ottery, Cape Town, was so overcome with emotion. It was on this emotional high that the curtain came down on tonight’s show.

The eliminated contestants are Dalene Swartz, Lethabo Ramatsui aka Wattahmelon, Bongiwe Pearl Mdaka, Victor Matalane, Sandile Skosana and Mnqobi Dlamini.

Could A Bonang and Somizi Reality TV Show Crossover Be In The Works?

Bonang and Somizi seem to have buried the hatchet. Will the upcoming seasons of their reality show pick on the storyline?

Somizi Bonang

Bonang Matheba and Somizi thrilled fans when on Monday, they appeared to have laid their long enduring feud to rest.

South Africa’s leading media personalities were smiling from ear to ear as they exchanged warm hugs and posed for pictures at Bonang’s House of BNG launch. It’s been at least three years since the two, who once playfully dubbed themselves ‘twins’ during the most Instagrammable days of their friendship, have appeared in a picture together.

The reunion continued on Tuesday Queen B shared an I.G story of flowers she received from Somizi.

While it remains unclear what really triggered the rift between the former buddies in the first place, both parties have spoken out on a few occasions about how they’ve felt wrong by the other. In her 2016 bestseller, From A To B, Bonang Matheba alluded to betrayal that she found hard to forgive.

And now that it seems all of that is in the past, fans are wondering whether Monday’s good spirited ‘reunion’ will make it’s way to Somizi’s Living The Dream, and Bonang’s upcoming season of Being Bonang.

Both of them are progressively filming upcoming seasons of their hit reality shows, and it only makes sense they would want to include a burying the hatchet bit to bolster storylines.

Legend Manqele of BarLeader, the production company behind both reality shows, was present and very excited to showcase Bonang and Somizi’s reconciliation on his social media. There are thumbs to be held.

Meanwhile…

Bonang, who’s currently “apartment hunting” in New York City, has been taping another reality show, Bonang: Coming To America. The show will chronicle Mo’gerl’s bid to forge her inroads into the States, as her brand goes international. The Queen B has been treating fans to glimpses of her time in the Big Apple on her social media feeds.

Somizi, on the other hand, has his hands full as he preps his wedding to fiancé, Mohale. The two’s nuptial is set to have scored them a million rand deal for a wedding special, which is set to air on Mzansi Magic. There’s no word on whether or not the special will air as a stand alone, or be part of Living With The Dream, just yet.

Wendy Williams revealed during her Monday show that she’s been living in a ‘sober house’, where she goes every day after taping her daily talk show.

Williams, who recently returned from a two month hiatus during which she was reportedly hospitalised for “health issues”, told her viewers and ‘co-hosts’ that her reality couldn’t be further from the sparkling glamour suggested by the nature of her job.

“Nobody knew, because I look so glamorous out here”, said the Queen of talk, who’s been open about her previous battles with cocaine addition.

Williams also revealed that she attends several meetings with “my brothers and sisters who struggle with this addiction” every day after wrapping up her daily pilate sessions.

The only people who’ve known about this, Wendy says, are her husband and son.

This is the first time Wendy Williams has lifted the veil on some of the going-ons that might have led her to the recent hiatus. Shortly before embarking on the breather, Wendy had to apologise to viewers on the show for slurring her words and appearing disoriented during one of the shows.

The 53 year old media personality returned on her show to shut down rumours of an impending divorce between her and her husband, Kevin Hunter, who’s been dogged by cheating allegations for a while, according to reports.

According to the Daily Mail, Wendy is being treated at the facility for alcohol and prescription medication addition.
