adidas Originals: P.O.D System Campaign featuring Yannick and RhaRha

Adidas has banged out a new locally produced set of visuals and snaps for their POD System, in collaboration with Yanick and Rharha

adidas Originals presents the latest iteration of the P.O.D. System together with a locally produced film and image series featuring Yannick Ilunga and Rochelle ‘RhaRha’ Nembhard, who embody the campaign’s ethos of ‘Great alone, better together’.

Yannick and RhaRha, the creative force behind the Noirwave movement, personify the spirit of P.O.D System in a celebration of creative unity. Offering a glimpse into Noirwave’s iconic philosophy, the powerful cinematic edit of the film echoes P.O.D System’s work-in-progress nature.

Set in an open-air urban environment, the campaign images bring the power of the Noirwave collective to life and translate the combination of nostalgia and progression that underpins the P.O.D. System into a clear visual context. The laid-back nature of the images places a firm focus on the fluidity and freedom of movement that characterises the P.O.D-S3.1 silhouette and Kaval apparel collection.

Imagery in the campaign feature the release of the P.O.D-S3.1 model in minimalist black, lavender and grey colourways. The silhouette boasts a unique podular construction that unites three heritage technologies in one – The P.O.D-S3.1’s outsole features a Boost™ unit in the heel, a high-rebound EVA forefoot, and a Torsion™-inspired Point of Deflection bridge that unites the three components.

Enhancing its night time glow, the revolutionary new silhouette is powered by deliberately placed hi-vis technology. The upper is made up of lightweight nylon ripstop, soft mesh knit, and suede overlays. Elevated for comfort and engineered for nighttime exploration, the shoe sits atop a full-length BOOST sole.

Re-imagining the original Nite Jogger colorway, the updated release is punctuated by contrasting hits of orange set against an all-black upper.

Meanwhile the signature heel overlay acts as a visual nod to the archive model, continuing a theme of looking to the past in order to innovate for the future. A shoe designed for the relentless pursuit of creativity, unbound by the constraints of daylight, the Nite Jogger sneaker is capped off by the message “the speed of nite” written in morse code on its outsole.

Global sports brand PUMA is keeping the momentum strong with their RS chronicles – with the launch of the RS-X Trophies, this latest iteration of the RS-X sneaker celebrates the extreme reinvention of fame in the era of social media and reality television.

As worn by South African rapper, songwriter and record producer Nasty C whoscooped major awards including Best New Artist at the Metro FM MusicAwards, making him the perfect fit for the RS-X Trophies.

Built with RS technology on the midsole, the bulky silhouette with mesh andtextile upper is stylishly decked with leather overlays.

Team Gold colourway are embossed with a textile heel piece and moulded sock liner with specific RS branding. Completing the look with tonal laces, the sneakers are placed atop rubber outsole with a lightweight midsole.

The sneakers of the season come in two additional colourways – PUMA White-Bronze and Steel-Grey Dark Shadow. Back in the ‘80s, the RS was an innovative and high-quality cushioning technology. PUMA has revived and reinvented this design from the ground up.

For their final Select X Stories of the year, PUMA will host a Q&A couch session with Nicholas Nkuna AKA “Nick Soul” and Khanya Mkangisa from 11 am on Saturday 17th November at the SELECT Courtyard in Braamfontein.

This event is titled “The Actors”, and the conversation topic will cover the showbiz and acting industry.

Hailing from Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, Nick Soul was catapulted onto the world stage when he was cast as ‘Simba’ in The Lion King in 2012 and he’s also known for his role in SABC1’s TV series Skeem Saam. Actress and television presenter Khanya Mkangisa made her debut at the age of 14 as a youth show presenter on YOTV and has been on the rise ever since.

The Select X Stories is a series of knowledge-sharing events celebrating street culture, art, media and music, as hosted by local creative legend Mpumelelo ‘Frypan’ Mfula.
