It’s one of the hottest events on the local calendar. And this year’s Delicious International Food and Music Festival is already shaping up to be one hell of an unforgettable experience! The beautifully curated experience of amplified music and amazing food returns for a two-day music and food fest at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in Midrand on September 22 and 23rd.

We are already pretty excited to catch some of the hottest local and international acts on stage, what with a line-up that boasts, amongst others Grammy Award winner Erykah Badu, New Zealand’s young soul singer and multi-instrumentalist and my current fave Jordan RakeiDJ collective, Jazzanova and the British acid jazz band D-Influence.

Let’s talk about the food!

Celebrated South African chef, restaurant owner and TV personality Reuben Riffel returns by popular demand bringing his sensational Franschoek based restaurant “Reuben’s” together with Coca-Cola, to Johannesburg for two days only with a not-to-be-missed taste sensation of some of his fabulous signature dishes.

His delectable menu features an immaculate balance of flavours with dishes such as cold smoked Franschhoek trout and guacamole with preserved lemon, saffron pickled cauliflower, nori, nuoc chum dressing, black bean puree, sesame seeds, pickled mustard, sweet-gochujang cucumber and crispy rice fritter.

For mains there’s chargrilled beef fillet with sweet soy glaze accompanied by smoked bone marrow with salsa verde, barley & beef shin ragout, carrot-tarragon puree, umami mushroom and charged onion and dessert is passion fruit cheesecake accompanied by a gin poached peach, fruit & macadamia salsa and a berry macaroon.

Reuben Riffel’s long-table restaurant (brought to you by Coca-Cola) includes a cash-bar where restaurant ticket holders can complement their meal with the perfect wines and beverages that will bring out the flavour profiles of the ingredients in the dishes.

Riffel is delighted to be back: “Food doesn’t have to be fancy and extravagant to be delicious. Too much messing about with food makes it lose its identity, its essence. It shows a lack of respect for the items you’re cooking. I believe in looking for new ways to do things, but simplicity is always the key.”

During the Heritage Day culinary weekend, festival fans can enjoy some of their favourite food market vendors under one roof on the Delicious Mile, the professionally curated gourmet street food market which is the best of its kind in South Africa. The gourmet street food market serves food from all over the world, prepared by slow food producers. Patrons can get a little taste of South Africa in Johannesburg, perfectly paired with the best music and drinks.

DJ collective, Jazzanova and the British acid jazz band D-Influence.

Grammy Award winner Louie Vega leads the star-studded Vodacom Dance Arena hosted by Oskido and Kaya FM. New York born DJ Todd Terry and South African dance demigods DJ Christos, Vinny Da Vinci, DJ Oskido, DJ Fresh and Greg Maloka complete the music and dance line-up. The stage will open at 2pm on both days.

She then proceeded to execute her moderating duties, which have left fans wowed by her ability to stretch and refashion her famous effervescent presenting style to the diplomatic and official tone of the event and its world leaders.

The event focused on breaking barriers and leaving no girls behind – a countdown to 203o that aims to redress failures to meet the Millennium Development Goal of achieving universal primary education by 2015.

The goal is to accelerate action on girls’ education while ensuring that girls who are currently in school are able to master the basics and progress through secondary education, it says here.

Caster Semenya’s Born To Do It Nike Ad Is Bomb AF

Caster Semenya sprints past the challenges she’s faced in her career in this victorious Nike ad

Caster Semenya Nike ad

Nike continues shaking the advertising table with their recent radically transformative adverts, which find the global sports brand taking strong political stances in their latest Just Do It campaign.

Departing sharply from the clean aesthetic that has come to define the sometimes sterile marketing of major brands, it appears the brand has decided to have an authentic voice, even if it comes with some backlash.

A series of visually captivating clips have been banged out in quick succession over the last few weeks, and many of the adverts have people talking, Nike trending, and sneakers being burnt, literally.

It’s just days after the controversial Colin Kaepernick advert first premiered, resulting in massive backlash that saw those opposed to the national anthem protests burning their pairs.

And now the brand has debuted a mini Caster Semenya documentary, in which she stands her ground gallantly against the persistent, and often quite violent, opposition she has been facing throughout her career as one of South Africa’s most exceptional athletes, as well as one of the world’s fastest women.

Over the years, the legitimacy of Caster’s womanhood has been a matter of debate for various sporting bodies, some who’ve tried forcing to take medication to suppress testosterone in her body.

“Would you prefer I hadn’t worked so hard?”, Semenya asks in a powerful monologue cascading on the Born to do it through line. “Would it be easier for you if I wasn’t so fast ?”

The advert distils the athlete’s journey in a marriage of eras that jumps from her childhood into the women she’s become, a sprinter with a few records under her belt.

“Too bad. I was born to do it.”, she says.
