How To Guarantee A Valentine’s Gift This Year

Published

on

If you are reading this you probably didn’t get a valentines gift and you are wondering why? Are you are that girl every year that finds herself waiting for that surprise gift that never shows up? Or have you just given up entirely on Valentine’s Day because your partner thinks it’s pointless and he always has to go to the “men’s conference” this week.

You try to avoid it, but deep down you want those random flowers sent your office accompanied by that cute creepy teddy bear, chocolates (even though you on a diet) and a note that reads: “Be ready by 8, I am taking you somewhere special. Love, your lover”.

And then you end the lovely night with some old school R&B music on that Bold & The Beautiful love making. Pretty much seems like the perfect cheesy date you’ve been dreaming of. Or maybe you not that fussy and all you are asking for is just flowers, or even a rose ‘nje’. But still ‘dololo!’

With all efforts you make, to remind him of the big day coming, by hinting via WhatsApp stories, still no gift? All you end up getting is a lame happy valentines text or better yet for those that are single NOTHING except for WhatsApp stories of other people being spoiled rotten while you stare at your screen at work. Which ends up ruining your entire mood and making you become the biggest advocate for anti valentines days.

So, now, how do we fix this?

Do we buy ourselves flowers and post them? Do we ship our boyfriends to boyfriending academy? You are probably waiting for 6 fire tips to getting those gifts but unfortunately I don’t have them, what anticlimax huh?! But I will help you enjoy this Valentine’s Day differently, with no expectations.

There are a few things you can do this Valentine’s to not feel so alone, like:

WEEKDAY MAYHEM

You can spice things up by taking you and your girls on a night out clubbing, karaoke night, singles party, speedy dating etc. what ever rocks your boat.

GIFT EXCHANGE

I would suggest you get all your friends that didn’t get a gift to come over to your place with an item from their closet that doesn’t fit or they don’t want and exchange simultaneously. You would be surprised what treasure you would find in someone else’s trash and you could bond over some wine too.

‘WE GOT NO GIFTS’ DINNER

Call anyone you know for a cosy dinner laughing at your silly Valentines expectations

CHEAT DAY!

Buy yourself those guilty pleasures treats just this once because you deserve it. That’s your love language moes.

GAMES NIGHT

Call your friends over for game night, it gets your mind of things.

Be creative have fun with it, make it a day to look forward to every year. Take this as an opportunity to remind those you love, how much you love them. This Valentine’s Day amplify your love. Always remember love exists within yourself, others just amplify it. Go on and express your love language.

TELLAMAN’s Debut Album, God Decides, Has Arrived

Tellaman has premiered his debut album – God Decides

Published

on

Tellaman God Decides

Last week, we had the privilege of attending Tellaman’s album listening session for God Decides, which took place at his musical home merely hours before the album premiered.

Tellaman God Decides

The preview of the looming body of work was a showcase of what sounded like a mellow record from one who’s created the kind of anticipation only a handful of artists can, particularly in the age of streaming. The rules have changed – Kanye set precedence for a 7 track album not long ago. Singles are the new destination and, it seems, their lifespan is now down to just about a month.

Give or take.

The excitement around the soulful vocalist’s first studio album is, therefore, quite telling of the unique space he takes up in the South African soundscape, where we see names replace each other’s relevance with quick succession.

His has been a steady journey; he was certainly in a different space when we had a conversation with him two years ago.

Tellaman God Decides

The place he is now, though, informs the not just the work itself, but the many talents behind it.

“For the first time, I wasn’t trying to prove anything. I wasn’t trying to prove that I’m the best producer or writer. I just wanted to bring this idea to life and make sure that it’s exactly how I’d imagined it; if it sounds simple and cheesy or complicated and complex, that’s because I wanted it to sound that way.”

The inspiration behind the album is being in a relationship and trying to make it as a musician, two important aspects of life to balance, and something Tellamanhas yet to figure out. God Decides is about Tellaman meeting a girl he believes he loves and trying to make it as a musician whilst trying to make both work and his relationship work, but she fails to understand, and the industry gets the best of Tellaman.

BUY/STREAM:  TELLAMAN – GOD DECIDES

Based on his religious background, Tellaman titled the album God Decides.

“I was taught that I can only do the best I can and let God take care of the rest. I chose ‘God Decides’ as the title of my first album because I have always felt like somehow, I am not fully in control of everything that is happening in my life. I chose the name because I believe I would not be where I am in my life if God didn’t allow it and I wouldn’t have gone through things I write about if God didn’t allow it.”

Featuring Tellaman’s signature melodies, smooth vocals with instrumental highlights, the story of the album is the bigger picture, with each song being a compiled episode that forms the bigger picture. But most importantly Tellaman brings a simplicity in his music in which a young or old person can find something to relate to. Fans can look forward to a new insight into Tellaman’s life; a lot of flaws, love and hope in the form of the music from his debut offering.

“If you want to put a specific style to the album, you can call it ‘Hip Hop/RnB’, but I like to call it good music and just leave it there. This is my life from 2014 until the day I stopped recording it. My mistakes, my good and bad moments in love. I hope what I have gone through will help someone do or choose better than me.”

Look out for our full album review soon.

She’s one of the hardest working women in the South African creative industry, and there’s no shred of doubt that a lot of hard work goes into juggling the many projects Thando Thabethe dabbles in.

But, Thabooty ruffled feathers when on Wednesday, the multi hyphenate media personality and entrepreneur was ensnared in the throes of a public counter-blast following her tweets on the persistent #OpenUpTheIndustry movement.

Thando, who feels that she’s “worked very hard” to get where she is, does not believe that there’s any capacity for her to open anything up, especially seeing she does not really call the shots. “I will be damned before I’m told to open up the industry!!!”, she wrote.

“Open it up for yourself like all of us did!!! To this day… I audition!!! I’ve worked very hard to get where I am…and I’m only just getting started.”

The actress followed with many more tweets expanding on her sentiment.
