Glitz, glamour and bubbles were the order of the day at the second Sun Met celebrated with G.H.Mumm on Saturday, as racing enthusiasts and fashionistas came together to celebrate and witness the thrill of Africa’s Richest Race Day at Kenilworth Racecourse in Cape Town.

Thousands of punters descended on the Kenilworth Racecourse for the 134th  edition of the Sun Met
for one of the most prestigious events on the local calendar, as they witnessed Oh Susanna (Aus)
cause an upset and walk away with a superb win in the R5 million Grade 1 Sun Met.

AYANDA THABETHE: A FLAWLESS BEAUT IN SHEER

Grant van Niekerk ensured that Oh Susanna came from behind to walk away as this year’s Sun Met
Champion – much to the delight of the crowds.

This year’s theme, “Style Ahead of the field” ensured that all racegoers celebrated Afro-Chic fashion,
style, and elegance on race day.

LOOTLOVE: OUR CONSISTENT STYLE CRUSH… WOW! 


Various local fashion designers showcased show stopper pieces and their best designs and creations
in-between the races at the Entertainment Marquee leading up to the Best Dressed Competition. The
Sun Met 2018 Fashion Show included designs from some of SA’s top and current fashion designers,
including Khosi Nkosi, Imprint ZA, Ri.Ch Factory and House of Ole.

DJ TIRA AND GUGU KHATHI MADE THE SCENE

This year’s Best Dressed Woman honour was awarded to the sexy, Mala Bryan, who rocked a
colourful Afro Chic creation. Suavely dressed Charles Samuels, who donned a blue suit with Afro
Chic detail, walked off with the Best Dressed Male Award.

LALLA HIRAYAMA… YUM!

Both walked away with prizes to the value of R25 000 each. Judges for the Best Dressed Competition included fashionista Melody Molale and pioneering designer, Mzukisi Mbane.

Rob Collins, Chief Operating Officer at Sun International, said: “It’s our second year of taking the
reigns of this prestigious racing event and we are so thrilled to bring Africa together through racing,
glamour, fashion and excitement at Kenilworth Racecourse”.
