Two-time Emmy-nominated and Comics’ Choice Award winner, Loyiso Gola, is one of South Africa’s most loved comedians for a reason – and Capetonians will get to experience this comedy genius in person next month.
Returning to his hometown with his brand-new show, Unlearning, the Cape Town-born Gola challenges societal norms in his latest comedy offering on stage at the Baxter Theatre, for an exclusive two-night offering on Friday 1 December and Saturday 2 December.
In doing so, Gola allows audiences to question everything they thought they knew about politics, race, history and more – all delivered with his signature satirical wit.
Gola who has just returned from making his US comedy TV début on the late night TV show, 50 Central – a show produced by rapper and actor 50 Cent – says he is looking forward to dazzling the Cape Town audience.
“It’s a very introspective show that deals with a lot of issues. It’s very personal, which means I draw a lot from my personal life,” he says.
The Gugulethu-born host, co-producer, and writer of Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola is no stranger to making audiences laugh on TV and on stage.
Gola, who showcased Unlearning to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival audience earlier this year, says he is currently going through “a process of personal unlearning”, which he gets to share with the audience.
“I talk about unlearning the sexism, masculinity and how I view myself as a black person.”
Gola, who heads to Durban in mid-December with the show after its run in The Mother City, admits that his Cape Town audiences are always a thrill to entertain on stage.
“I enjoy performing in Cape Town because I know the city so well. I dig the city’s culture and vibe – from a steak Gatsby to the taxis.”

“It’s An Exciting Time To Be African” – Sho Madjozi On Her Looming One Source Live Show
Fresh from a bevvy of successful international music performances – a list which includes a debut appearance at the AfroPunk stage in the States – Sho Madjozi sustains her winning streak as she preps for her looming performance at the upcoming One Source Live Festival.
The beautifully curated and culturally effervescent music fest will be taking place November 17th at The Sheds, 1 Fox Street.
The contemporary Pan-Africanist will cook up no less than three fresh scorchers with what will undoubtedly be a masterstroke of creative genius featuring producers Tboy da Flame, Master KG and Makwa. She’s also roped in rappers Big Hash, Dee Koala and Jovie Jovv, along with singers Makhadzi, Nelisiwe and Mthandeni ft Gcokama Elisha.
Her collaborative selections are aligned with her artistic instinct, an anchor grounding her in her roots.
“I chose my collaborators because they represent what I’m looking for, which is young African artists who are genuinely exciting and can be popular in Jozi and Thohoyandou and everywhere in-between”, She said.
“This is an exciting time to be African, and we are here to be part of that pan-African revolution.”
As one of the Absolut Creative Revolutionaries – along with Khuli Chana, Trevor Stuurman and Osborne Macharia who will also gift festival-goers with their works – Sho Madjozi will be curating one of the most awe-inspiring acts in her young career. After all, the Discovery Stage is where you showcase when you are on the cusp of a serious career breakthrough.
Friends, fans and followers will be treated to a packed programme that will engage all their senses. Besides the Sho Madjozi action on the Discovery Stage, there’ll be the Absolut Art Bar, the epicentre of the festival featuring curated art and performance space by day which will transform into the headline stage after dark.
The Street Zone is where creativity goes back to its source with art installations, food trucks, a street performance stage, fashion pop-ups and street photographers.
The One Source Live bill is heavy with disrupters and visionaries in the form of Zulu rooted and global star S’java, the Hip-Hop beatnik Shane Eagle, DJ PH, the party starter kokomaster D’Banj and Gqom Nation kings, Distruction Boyz. Topping it all with an unmissable throwback to a time of unique sound innovation will be Kwaito legends, Trompies.
