Nigerian hair vlogger and expert Chinwe Juliet of Igbo Curls recently shared a vlog breaking down in detail the reason why certain kinds of hair tend to become dry, course and hard. Just to be clear, there are many reasons which can lead to dry and brittle hair, such as heat styling, dyes and so so forth.
But in this one, Chinwe explains the concept of porosity and how that affects your hair’s ability to absorb water and sustain moisture for longer periods of time.
Personally, I’ve figured my hair definitely has low porosity. It naturally dries pretty fast, which is part of the reason I found Chinwe’s latest update very illuminating.
According to Essence, porosity simply refers to your hair’s ability to absorb moisture. That ability comes in three categories: low, normal and high.
Watch Chinwe’s tut on what the differences are, possible causes and what treatment options are there for your hair type.
