Cici has released a heart-wrenching music video for ‘Iqiniso’, in which she depicts the gripping reality of domestic violence

Cici’s latest music video depicts the heartbreaking reality of domestic violence, a subject that is quite personal to the Ambitious Entertainment songstress.

The clip is for her single Iqiniso, and it debuted on SABC 1 premium music show Live Amp on Friday at 7:30 PM.  And for those who missed it,  the full-length visuals are now also on YouTube.

In the gripping, an Ambitiouz Visuals directed picture, Cici can be seen singing in a hospital where doctors are operating on a female patient. She is giving viewers an outer body experience as she puts herself in the shoes of those who have gone through similar experiences.

Earlier this year the singer laid assault charges against ex-boyfriend and Kwaito artist Arthur Mofokate. The case has drawn much public outcry as Cici alleges that Mafokate dragged her into the streets after a physical scuffle.

According to the ENCA, Cici reported that she has had to undergo a pelvic replacement after one of the incidents.

Mafokate has denied these allegations and has also laid counter charges against her.

Bongo Maffin’s Comeback Single Is Here! [LISTEN]

The wait is over! Bongo Maffin is back with their first single in 13 years.

Published

BONGO MAFFIN

Bongo Maffin delighted fans when they performed together for the first time in aeons earlier this year.

The iconic four’s much celebrated on stage reunion took place at the inaugural One Source Live shindig in March.

And after months of mounting anticipation for their promised single, the group on Friday ended a 13-year hiatus and unleashed a brand new scorcher! The legendary South African group make a triumphant return with a funky mid-tempo single called Harare.

Bongo MaFFIN

Rooted in the Afrobeat/soul influences, Harare is as much about the Zimbabwean capital city as it is about one’s state of mind. The band interprets Harare from its Shona origins which means ha ba robale (in Setswana) or they don’t sleep in English.

‘This is long overdue. The fans have been demanding it for years and years,’ remarks Stoan. ‘As artists, we had different psychological approaches to Harare. The natives coming from the countryside we amazed by this city that doesn’t sleep with the lights constantly on. But also, this is a metaphor for the life of an artist. It has an Afro-futuristic vibe as we reconnect our roots and the future.’

The song is released as a joint venture between Bongo Maffin Music and Kalawa Jazmee.

Summary:

Kid X stretches our expectations in his debut studio album, Thank Da King. With a slew of high profile collaborations, a combination of new bops and favourites, the rappers proves why he can longer be ignored.

Nasty C and AKA had the most anticipated South African Hip Hop albums in 2018, but Kid’s X’s debut studio album packs sufficient proof that he can no longer be ignored.

While he’s churned out the solid singles through the years, Thank Da King is the first time the rapper had space to fully express himself artistically.

And at 26 tracks, the ‘double-disc’ record gives Kid X enough room to splay his skills, tell his story and make a mark. Of course, it won’t really be a double ‘disc’ for fans who will be streaming the album, but everyone will still enjoy the transitions between the rawer version of Kid X in the first part, to the smoother sounds in the second.

Thank Da King boasts a slew of collaborations that include Kwesta, Da LES, Shwi Nomntekhala, Stogie T, Yanga and, amongst others, Vennessa Mdee.

Sonically, the rapper plays at his biggest strengths while anchoring the album’s overall feel as an authentic South African production – embracing the many rich facets of our musical heritage and fusing them with his contemporary Hip Hop sound to produce something pleasant to jam to.

The woofer blowing bass on 2 Spin – the album’s intro – sets a tone for the album in several ways; One, this album puts Kid X’s storytelling skills at its center. His lyricism and flows are undeniable, but you will delight in the many themes he tackles with each verse. Secondly, there’s plenty of the township swag and zesty kwaito influences that have come to define his sound and, three, he is not here to play.

It can only help that the stint quickly moves to Stokvel, one of the album’s best bops, and Ipati, a single he released a few years ago during his tenure at Cashtime. Both songs do justice to the seamless weaving of Kwaito and Hip Hop that threads the overall fabric and texture of the project.

Negotiating the boundaries between Hip Hop and Kwaito, as he has always done, Thank Da King finds Kid X stretching our expectations to find tempos and flavours that echo far beyond that dichotomy. There’s the maskandi influence on Mtan’ Omuntu – one of the album’s lead singles –  with Shwi Nomtekhala. The song finds the unexplored spaces of harmony between Hip Hop and maskandi, proving that Kid X is really crafting his own lane in the game.

Nude is one of the album’s most pleasant surprises. Not because it’s one of the best songs here (it’s hard to quickly whip up a list of the best songs on this album), but because we are being introduced to a different side to him.

He’s a pantsula playing in varied spaces on Mtan’ Omuntu, but here there’s a smooth and lush vibe we haven’t heard a lot of. It’s a love song that finds Kid X laying down some vocals over a nostalgic beat.

Both tracks appear in the second part of the album, where Kid X is essentially allowing us to the softer side of his flow. Whether you are more impressed by the alternative RnB meet rap influences on Medicated with Zoocci Coke Dope, or the encounter with more traditional melodies, or just the nostalgic RnB vibes with the bit of singing, we’re sure some of you will be vibing more to disc two.

We vibed to the album in it’s entirety. Because while no one does albums anymore, Kid X shows us there’s still space for raw talent and pure music, music without all the extra stuff that we must endure prior to releases these days, and we are enjoying every bit of it!

Boity Wuzdat

No one knew what to expect when Boity revealed plans to release some music not so long ago.

And on Friday the media personality finally wore her rapper tag when she unveiled her first ever single, Wuzdat, with Nasty C. The song has already shot to #1 on iTunes SA, scoring her first chart-topping hit!

In it Boity declares her entrance into the South African Hip Hop ecosystem; spitting cold trill about not recognising the competition.

The banger first surfaced on Thursday following on DJ Fresh’s Metro FM breakfast show. The radio station later shared videos of Boity having a blast in the studio as the song played, garnering some pretty impressive pre-listen reviews from fans who’ve been awaiting the release.

The single is a strong introduction of Boity as a rapper as she splays clean bars with confidence and a badass vibe we are only now being made privy to! The song was as highly anticipated as it was already dismissed by some long before it saw the light of day, thanks to scepticism about her then-unknown rapping abilities.

Wuzdat blasts in with 808s and trap flavoured sonic vibes, a catchy chorus and one hell of a dynamite verse by Nasty C.
