The Shocking Reshuffle: Bonang ‘Heartbroken’ By Her Metro FM Departure

Published

Bonang leaves Metro FM

Bonang Matheba on Monday announced her departure from Metro FM after a three year run on the station. And it’s all because she found out merely hours before going live that she will now be co-hosting the show with Lerato Kganyago.

“I am heart broken”, the 29 year old media darling tweeted emotionally, and revealed to her million and half followers that she has decided to part ways with her popular mid morning show The Front Row.

The shocking departure comes just hours after Matheba and Kganyago’s much talked about co-piloted radio show premiered this morning, sparking rife speculation that the addition is behind the resignation.

Matheba stunned fans when she announced her sudden split from the station, despite insisting that she will definitely be missing her Metro FM family.

“After 3 years of making magic on The Front Row, I can confirm that I’ve stepped down from the show,” she penned down to her million and half followers.

Not one to burn her bridges, Matheba also added that she will definitely be missing her Metro FM family, adding that she will be looking forward to the next chapter of her radio career.

Bonang’s sudden exit may have been quite a shock to many of her listeners, many who enjoy her #AskAMan segment on the show, but she follows on the footsteps of Nathi Msengana and Glen Lewis, who both recently bid farewell to the station.

Not all is lost though, as Metro FM has welcomed amongst others DJ Fresh and Masechaba Ndlovu as the SABC radio station shuffles continue.

Fridays are usually reserved for the premiering of brand new music in South Africa. But while we were treated to our usual supply of fresh boops this afternoon, Lootlove’s baby bump snaps have easily melted way more hearts!

It’s a phenomenal time to be me. God and my ancestors came together for me and blessed me with something so wonderful! I’m pregnant!😆🤰🏾💁🏽‍♀️ I won’t lie! I’m shoooook! Haha! 😆 I always thought I was cool 🤣😋… and now to find out that I’m having twins makes me even cooler! I am carrying Hip and Hop 😋🤣 This is the most beautiful time of my life. Most precious. The scariest and the most exciting. I’m completely vulnerable and sensitive. I’m excited! I’m nervous but all that goes away when I feel weird little “gas bubbles” which I now know are little kicks because I’m carrying life. A reminder of the miracle and wonder that is God. ❤️ As “personalities”/“celebrities”, we are selfishly required to share every moment in our lives and when we don’t, we have people around us that we think we can trust, who gladly do it for us wether it hurts/compromises us and those we love or not. We constantly have vultures flying above us ready to share our private lives in the most non-emotional manner ever. You may forget but all I am is Human. Flesh and blood and nothing will ever change that and yes, my life is your entertainment, I get that, but try walk a mile in my shoes. The most important thing for me has been protecting my family, my persons family, his beautiful children and respecting tradition. My silence has had everything to do with making sure that everyone who matters has their moment with this, that they feel everything, from shock to happiness to curiosity to excitement, ALL OF IT, Alone, Without the rest of the country pitching in, hounding them/adding commentary/calling or harassing them etc. Its a beautiful time, it’s a sacred time, it’s OUR time. I am BEAMING! Here’s to LOVE. Here’s to forever with the greatest gifts of them all. P.S If you see me in the streets, please don’t touch my tummy… I will punch you in the throat! 😃😘 K thanks byeeeee ❤️🌻😍😃😇🤰🏾💁🏽‍♀️ 📸: @aust_malema 💃🏾: @siya_weloveher 💋: @preciousxabamakeup #LootLoveSquared👑

Also, she’s pregnant with twins, which “makes me cooler”, so there’s that.

The Media personality surprised fans when she shared the pictures of her sporting a baby bump on her Instagram page. The discernibly joyous mom to be has two cute faces drawn on her tummy for the twins, which she’s playfully referring to as Hip and Hop respectively.

Lootlove has been seeing Hip Hop artist Reason for a minute now, and the two have kept their romance below the radar and out of the press. That hasn’t stopped fans and celebrities from congratulating the couple on their looming bundles of joy!

Congrats Lootlove and Reason!

Matheba, who looked demure and professional as she spotted a sleek ponytail, opened the discussions by highlighting her very own philanthropical work here in South Africa, where she’s championed her Bonang Matheba education fund to assist young women with furthering their studies.

She then proceeded to execute her moderating duties, which have left fans wowed by her ability to stretch and refashion her famous effervescent presenting style to the diplomatic and official tone of the event and its world leaders.

The event focused on breaking barriers and leaving no girls behind – a countdown to 203o that aims to redress failures to meet the Millennium Development Goal of achieving universal primary education by 2015.

The goal is to accelerate action on girls’ education while ensuring that girls who are currently in school are able to master the basics and progress through secondary education, it says here.

Boity Apologising for Her Throwback Homophobic Remarks Is A Good Start

Published

The surfacing of archived tweets containing homophobic sentiments by a slew of South African celebrities has opened dialogues about the toxic heterosexist landscape of the local entertainment business.

Just days after her first ever Hip Hop joint set the streets ablaze and earned the media-personality-turned-rapper her first number one on iTunes, Boity has had to apologise for homophobic remarks she tweeted almost a decade ago. She also acknowledged that while her views have changed along with her growth, she used to be quite the outspoken homophobe back then.

The apology comes after a series of old homophobic tweets resurfaced. She was only 19 years old when she vented her hateful spleen towards the queer community, but she has grown a lot over the years. Her views on sexuality were “warped” back then, but she knows better now.

Tweeted Boity amid backlash; “A decade ago, I was naive, homophobic, young and didn’t know better”, she explained. ” I was 19 and my views on sexuality were warped. We grow, our views change and we do better. It’s gut-wrenching and embarrassing to see them now however I am not the same person I was 10 years ago.”

She proceeded to apologise to everyone she has hurt in the old tweets.

The tweets in question were published over different occasions. In one, she is upset by what she perceives to be a surge in the representation of black gay male romance in local TV soapies.

In another scathing tweet, she leaves no shred of doubt about how she feels about the queer community.
Boity’s apology was met with further debates about the unaddressed homophobia that goes on unchecked in the South African entertainment business.

Despite increasing visibility, what with the likes of Somizi and, amongst other Nakhane Toure proudly shining the spotlight on the existence of gay people in the creative industry, there’s no doubt the business remains rigidly heterosexist.

Tweets allegedly published on Nadia Nakai and Rouge’s Twitter years ago have also attracted some interest, but the two rappers are yet to take actual ownership. That remains to be seen.

While polarising, Boity’s apology has been embraced by many as a good start at acknowledging the pain she has caused many people. She herself was young at the time, and how many of us wish we could have expressed ourselves differently ten years ago.
