Jokes flew around in 2016 that Babes Wodumo is a ‘national keypoint’, thanks to her mesmerising live performances and the unprecedented success of her debut single Wololo, which became the fastest single to reach a million views on Youtube.
Yet on Saturday night, fans were shocked that the self proclaimed ‘Queen of Gqom’ went home empty handed at the 2016 Metro FM Music Awards.
And despite the main mechanic for the awards ceremony being through fan votes, many fans and celebs took to their timelines to express disbelief that despite having the biggest hit in 2016, Babes went under.
Babes wodumo and Kwesta killed through out 2016 it’s really sad they didn’t win nothing . This music industry is so corrupt

It doesn’t help matters that Riky Rick gave the night’s most controversial speech, lashing the South African industry for being ‘corrupt’. Despite being onstage to accept a trophy, Riky called out the music industry for ‘playing with the people.’
He continued the verbal onslaught on award shows on his Twitter account, where he echoed growing sentiment about awards being for sale.

#MMA16 people asking if we did vote for Babes Wodumo, truth of the matter is these awards are captured & we wasted our money for voting.
