Published

on

They’ve both had an incredible year!

So it comes as no surprise that Amanda Black and Babes Wodumo are leading the nominations at the looming Metro FM Awards 2016. The former Idols SA contestant bagged herself 5 nominations following the success of her first album, which shipped platinum within 3 weeks of release in 2016.

Black’s domination is followed closely by newcomer Babes Wodumo, who’s debut single Wololo became the biggest summer smash hit in South Africa. Amongst many other milestones accomplished by the Queen of Gqom’s very first attempt was becoming the fast South African music video to reach 1 million views on Youtube.

The theme for this year’s award show is ‘What’s next is all that matters”, which is the coolest thing anyone could have come up with.

Amanda Black’s nomination tally up the total number of nods recieved by Ambtious Entertainment, making them the record label with the most nominations. Also, possibly undisputed. Other artists from the label who are hoping to walk away with gongs are A-Reece, Miss Pru and Sjava.

Voting lines have been opened and will close on the 12th of February.

SAMAs Are Switching Up A Few Categories Because Things Have Evolved

Published

on

The South African Music Awards have announced a few changes to some category names to include more artists who’s contributions might have been easily blackballed. As calls for entries for next year’s gong shindig continue gaining momentum, a more diverse pool of artist may now approach the table:

Best Rap Album has changed to Best Hip Hop Album. The renaming allows for Hip Hop DJs to enter their albums in addition to Rap residing in this category. We can already think of a few DJs who will soon be giving rappers a run for their money in this hotly contested category.

Best African Adult has changed to Best African Adult Contemporary Album. The category does not carry language exclusion.

Best Africa Artist has changed to Best African Artist.  This has also been made a special category so that South African artists can enter their works and compete for the bragging rights of being named the best artist in the African continent.

The Best Kwaito Album category name has not been changed, but its definition has expanded to include Gqom, New Age Kwaito, Amapiano and other types of Kwaito subcategory music available in the country.
