Shane Eagle Talks Being A Sex symbol, The Hustle and New Music

How sad was it to see Shane Eagle being eliminated from The Hustle, when we had all become so attached? We had a conversation with him about all things The Hustle and Shane.

Published

on

He defied early predictions that he wouldn’t last a day,  to race past some of the most talented rappers on The Hustle and safely land amongst the top 4 rappers on the competition. We caught up with Shane Eagle after his elimination from the show to get his word on a few things.

QuenchSA: Your battle with Cass was quite epic. Was this your most intense battle, like, ever?

Shane: You know, I’ve never been a battle rapper. Battle rappers are really different from people who consider themselves musicians. But I had to prep up for that battle. I haven’t been in a lot of battles so yes, that was the most intense one because it was actually probably the first battle I have ever done. So it was intense, but it was a learning experience at the same time.

The Hustle - Day One-260

QuenchSA: That in mind, what other things did you have to do that you felt were perhaps out of your zone?

Shane: I don’t think there were a lot of things that were out of my zone, I just think there were lots of challenges that were challenging. For instance, that one challenge with DJ Ankletaps… Like, I’ve never done a jingle. I’ve always been the type to just make a normal song or a record type thing. So like I said, it’s a learning experience – I’ve learnt how to do a jingle now. And another thing was the challenge we did with Lerato. It was a business challenge and I actually won it. That’s not something I used to focus on – the business side of it. That’s another thing I learnt how to do on the show as well.

Hustle 073

QuenchSA: What went through your mind when you realised you just got eliminated?

Shane: I was a little bit disappointed, but also happy as well. It was bittersweet because I left, but I left on the right note. If the whole of South Africa is watching, you want people to be like ‘oh, I didn’t want him to leave’ and not be like ‘yeah nah, he should have gone.’ ‘Cause, on Twitter and Instagram you can feel the connection you have with these people. But I knew, starting with 3000 entries, then top 20, top 12,  top 6 and then all the way to the top 4… I was feeling blessed rather than disappointed. I was happy with the outcome.

QuenchSA: Talking of the huge bodycount of casualties that started at 3000, the judges were quite sceptical about you at the beginning. AKA even mentioned that he cannot wait to nail you at some point. And yet, you kept kicking butt and went all the way to the top 4. How did you do that?

IMG_0524

Shane: I think from the beginning of the competition, the pressure the judges put on us made me try to work harder and get better at every challenge. The first challenge was the jingle challenge and in the hook challenge with Riky Rick, I didn’t perform as well as I should have. AKA was like, ‘If I don’t vote you out this week, I’ll probably vote you out next week.” So I needed to make sure that that doesn’t happen, that I improved every week so I can get far in the competition.

QuenchSA: Out of the judges critiques you received on the show, which one stuck out the most to you?

Shane: I think that would be the challenge I won with K.O. AKA was really impressed. He said a couple of things, how he liked how much I have grown in the competition. But more than that I think it has to be in the finale episode – where I got eliminated. Tumi down to show love. Tumi being such a heavyweight and an OG in the game…for him coming downstairs and shaking my hand like,’ I know you’re going home, but I have man, I have so much respect for you.’ That was really humbling to me.

QuenchSA: A lot of people felt that you had the most commercial appeal in the mansion. Thoughts?

Shane: I think every rapper in the house had their own flavour and style, but people generally associate a certain look with being the most commercial because of who is already in the industry. But right now, there is more to me than what meets the eye. For a lot of people, in the beginning it was all about the looks, they were not sure I could rap. And then the kid they weren’t sure could rap made it to the top 4 in the competition, you know? I definately would do well commercially. I’m hoping that I can put all my resourced together and make something off it.

QuenchSA: Talking of looks, we know sex sells in the music biz. Will you be cultivating your sex appeal to work in your favour forward?

Shane: Definitely! I feel like it has a great deal to play in terms of the full package. One of my biggest idols that I look up to , Chris Brown, he is very talented vocally. But he is also like, you know, what the woman say is hot, no homo. So the way you look can definately help you out in the industry

QuenchSA: Who are you rooting for between Big Star and Shabzi?

Shane: They’re both my brothers man. We really grew as brothers in the competition and we’re really close. It could go either way.I’m rooting for both of them and I’m wishing them all the best.

QuenchSA: Now that’s one politically correct answer. What’s next?

Shane: Me and Big Star will be dropping a new song called Way Up very soon. We are currently shooting the music video which will be out in your televisions very so. That’s the next transition from the reality show into the actual industry. It’s gonna be a big song because right now we have the resources and some good people behind us.

Anele Faces Backlash Over Kelly Rowland Diss

And she’s not backing down. “I said what I said.”

Anele has been trending for three days straight.

The bulk of it is harsh criticism and straight drags over her comments about Kelly Rowland’s looks, which she volunteered on Twitter this past Saturday.

Replying to a tweet by Sizwe Dhlomo about Kelly possibly being the best looking member of Destiny’s Child, Anele opined that Kelly look as good without make up.

“Kelly looks amazing with make up. Take that make up off then it’s tickets (sic)”, she tweeted. “I have receipts.”

Those receipts turned out to be a collage photo of Rowland with and without make up.

The radio presenter’s comments have tossed her to the throes of much backlash.

But she won’t apologise. “I said what I said and ain’t changing.

DJ Fresh Denies Sexual Assault Claims

He’s taking legal action.

Published

on

DJ Fresh has denied various sexual assault claims that surfaced recently on social media.

Real name Thato Sikwane, the 46 year old radio presenter became a subject of much furore following his appearance in the list of alleged perpetrators being implicated by the #AmINext Twitter movement, which seeks to expose and shame alleged perpetrators of gender based violence against women.

And while these social media accounts have named several South African male celebrities, Dj Fresh has distanced himself.

“The current allegations are false and without basis”, he expressed in a statement shared through his social media platforms. Adding; “They have been made and published, recklessly”.

“The fight against Gender Based Violence is one of the biggest battles in our countermand it saddens me that the focus is being shifted from the real issues and perpetrators”, he said.

DJ Fresh went also revealed that he is seeking legal counsel following the damning allegations made by a well known ex girlfriend, who is believed by some to have directed her Twitter posts about her an abusive “famous ex” to the popular broadcaster.

The 947 presenter shot down the claims, dismissing them as being “without merit”.

“I have, in the past, chosen to ignore this person, but due to the implications of the most recent statements,  the matter has been referred to my attorneys to handle.

Burna Boy Vows To Never Come To South Africa

Burna Boy is livid!

Published

on

Photo Credit: Burna Boy via Instagram

Not only did Burna Boy pull out from of his highly anticipated performance at this year’s Afropunk, but he also has no intention of ever setting foot in South Africa. Ever.

The African Giant on Tuesday ended his silence on the ongoing xenophobic violence in the country, lambasting the South Africa government for its failure to deal effectively with the spate of violence against foreign nationals and their property.

In a series of tweets that also slammed his former collaborator AKA over his remarks, the singer detailed his enduring strife with the country.

“I have not set foot in SA since 2017”, he revealed, “And I will NOT EVER go to South Africa again for any reason until the SOUTH AFRICAN government wakes the fuck up and really performs A miracle because I don’t know how they can even possibly fix this.” (Sic)

Burna Boy, who’s had decent commercial success in the country, also went on to mention his own personal experience with xenophobia.

Burna Boy echoes the sentiments by celebrities, both from South Africa and Nigeria, who have spoken out against xenophobic violence in South Africa. The likes of Wizkid, Davido, Jidenna and others have spoken out against the attacks.
