Elsewhere, the looming death of an innocent life triggers Gadaffi’s dark side while, Getty is mortified at what she sees at the shebeen.

ISIBAYA

Don’t you love it when he goes jogging because he just can’t deal? Ding Dong waltz into legal trouble when he opts for stealing as a means to help out with his financial troubles.

ISIDINGO

Drama continues at the mines with all the gender inequality talk, as Angelique is determined to represent the interests of female miners. Luckily, she will be grabbing tips for Rajesh on how to handle angry miners. Barker corners Pastor Gabriel to do his bidding, and you know Barker is known for getting his way around these things. So Sizwe’s shock and disproval of the arrangement is sad.

MUVHANGO

Mulalo ad Teboho set their sights on obtaining full custody of Morena, and they disclose these intentions to Ranthumeleng. Meanwhile Rendani and Lwazi are seeing a rough patch. Paranoia informs Matshidiso to follow Thuli to find out if she is up to something.

RHYTHM CITY

Drama! Zinzi is dealt a slap from Doc, during Women’s Month. The nerve, has he not been paying attention that physical violence against women is a big No-no? Let’s see how that pans out. Puleng is stressed out when it dawns on her that Suffocate harbours no wish to split up with Puleng, when Ntombi reveals plans for plans for a traditional wedding between Puleng and Suffo in KZN.

More Star Power In Star-Studded Cast Of Greed & Desire

Gail Mabalane is set to star in the Mzansi Magic telenovela Greed & Desires, with her first appearance starting tonight.

Published

on

Mzansi Magic’s telenovela, Greed & Desire just got a bit more sinister with the arrival of Gail Mabalane. The much beloved actress’ first episode airs tonight, Wednesday, 24 August 2016, at 19:30 on Mzansi Magic, DSTV Channel 161. Gail, who also stars on season 4 of Rockville  as the infamous Vicky Mofokeng, takes on the role of Cassandra Mabandla. The character is described as an intelligent and sassy cop who’s no nonsense “Olivia Pope” attitude will keep viewers truly enthralled. Cassandra Mabandla is set to play a very central role in the telenovela and Greed & Desire fans will have to stay tuned to their television sets to see how the show unravels.

Gail Tabane

Gail, who is married to Kwaito legend Kabelo Mabalane, was overjoyed by her new role.  “I’m excited to join another Mzansi Magic production. This is an exciting character for me to play. I always look forward to being challenged with every new role I take on. Cassandra is bold, one of her attributes we have in common. She stands tall and strong in what is normally seen as a male dominated industry. I cannot wait to unpack the character as the story develops” shares Gail Mabalane.

You can catch Gail Mabalane on Greed & Desire every Monday to Thursday at 19:30 on Mzansi Magic on DSTV Channel 161.

‘I Don’t Have Time For Anything Else’: Jessica Nkosi Speaks On Her Acting

Jessica Nkosi speaks to QuenchSA.com exclusively about her character on Isibaya and how her rise to prominence has not changed the way she sees her role as Qondi.

Published

on

Jessica interview
Jessica Nkosi has completely changed the landscape of Mzansi Magic‘s telenovela Isibaya and what it means to be leading lady of the show. The role of leading lady has swapped very capable hands from Mkhabayi (Thembi Nyandeni) to Iris (Mampho Brescia) in the past, with both women toiling for absolute power through the chess-like displays of brute force and might. Qondi’s use of her allure might just be the oldest and the most powerful, the power of seduction. Of course, with her role  being cast in a rather violent and misogynistic world, the power wielded by a female can take an unprecedented turn. She presently reigns over eBhubesini with her husband and Bhekifa while her bloods lusts for the tender touch of the Zungu’s hitman Fezile. She swiftly manoeuvres her way through a tricky maize with both men willing to lay their lives for the once coy and soft spoken Qondi, while her sway over what happens to eBhubesini is at her whim.

We caught up with Jessica Nkosi to find out more about her character and whether her shoulders have started to feel the weight of carrying such a blockbuster of a show. Unphased by the task at hand, Jessica explains that she doesn’t feel anything remotely akin to pressure. “There’s no pressure! Literally I get a script, I see it, I interpret it and I do myself which is act it up. I see Qondi going through a lot which might be interpreted as growth and it is growth in my eyes but with regards to pressure, no there is no pressure. I don’t necessarily look at it as Qondi is now lead. She now has a life, she’s now going through a whole lot in her life, that is how I look at it”, she said.
Qondi
We pestered on the nitty gritty things she does as Qondi to find out if she relates to any of the morally shunned upon activities she portrays. ‘Hardly so! I probably go through it with her but that is because that’s what the script says. The script writters are the bosses’ Jessica remarks . With such versatility, we pointed to the development of the character Qondi, starting out as a coy aid to the Zungu household to a woman with an opinion. ‘For me it’s not a difficult job. Acting is my job and it’s what I studied. I have a BA in drama and performing arts so whatever character that is written for me I will try interpret it the best way I know how. The beautiful thing about Ayeye‘s Eve and Qondi from Isibaya is that they were roles that were on two opposite sides of the spectrum and that is the beauty of acting, we don’t get type casted and we know we can play multiple roles’, she said passionately.

HER PROCESS…

Seeking a more in depth and personal reason to how she churns out such great emotion, we asked Jessica to share with us the various steps she takes in her preparation for a new role.
‘It’s reading the entire script and then getting a back story. Getting the history of the character and it’s not getting it through asking the, producer, director and the writer but forming a story on my own, in my head. So if this girl is a certain way, why does she act like this? There must be a story from the top, so I usually use that and make up a story, make up a history for my characters and that way it gives me a way forward’, she explains.
QondiAsked whether she intends on showcasing her talents on the big screen in the near future, she confessed that she currently has a lot on her play. ‘Definitely! I would like to do movies but as you know I’m on a soapie that is on 24/7 single day on TV. So everyday I’m shooting six o’clock till half past six, 12 hour days. So with that being said I don’t have time for anything else, I’ve had to rejected a lot of work because Isibaya was my first call’, Nkosi explains.
Lastly and probably the most important question considering that Jessica could have easily been part of the Victoria Secret catalogue, we asked her what she would do if she wasn’t an actress. ‘My calling is acting, I would be acting…I studied law for three years. I really wanted to do that so maybe I would have done that’, she giggles.

Catch Qondi on Isibaya every week day at 20:30 on Mzansi Magic Dstv channel 161.

Mixed Emotions: Qondi & Bhekifa’s White Wedding (Pics)

Mzansi Magic’s Isibaya turned up the furnace last week Friday with a tragedy filled wedding day. See pics inside.

Published

on

Mzansi Magic‘s captivating telenovela Isibaya has done it again. Fraught with much drama and intrigue, the show delivered a wedding of note last week Friday. It was the culmination of Qondi’s selfless decision to marry Bhekifa in order to save the Zungu family from impending death. A white wedding, love triangle situation, shooting of a lover all cramped into a single episode. Brilliant television!
