He added some fire to the Metro FM Music Awards last week by promoting his energy drink MoFaya onstage, without permission.
Now he has been suspended from his job as Metro FM presenter. Turns out the whole stunt was a serious breach of an agreement pertaining to how presenters may conduct themselves on the stage at the show.
According to the Sowetan, Item 9 of the brief states very clearly that:
“Please note that you are not allowed to do any form of product placement. No branded T-shirts/caps are permitted to be worn on stage when you present an award.”
As can be evidenced in the following clip obtained from Virgo Channel, the controversial dj gets audiences involved in a ‘Mo Faya’ promo. He highlights the fact that this is South Africa’s first 100% black owned energy drink, and that we should all support the venture.
But his bosses at the SABC are not impressed. According to new reports, he also faces a chop from Friends Like These.
Speaking to the Sowetan, Metro FM PR and communications manager Happy Ngidi said there would be consequences. “The brief was sent to the presenters and this incident will be discussed.
“As far as I know nobody who received the brief came back to arrange that they step outside it. In any corporate environment there are rules and instructions set and you have to honour them.”
The new reports also allege that he was handed the suspension letter on Sunday when he came to the Auckland Park studios where the bodyguards were instructed to physical block him from gaining entry into the building.
